It's also why I have a mechanically injected truck like in my sig.:)

Some guys seemed to have great luck with the 6.0L. Others were beyond horrible. Didn't seem to be much in between.

I am on the good luck end. I have a 04 and a 06. Both 4" exhaust, chips, intakes/filters, worked hard, driven hard, and flawless. Pulled upto 16,000# with the F-250 and 25,000# with the F-350. Nothing but tires and brakes on the F-250 along with a dash cluster at 3 months or so on the F-350 but no engine/tranny issues. Changed all the fluids at 60,000 miles and oil changes at 5,000 miles. Once a year a air-filter, fuel filters, and tranny filter.

My 03 Ram 2500 rusted out in 2 years. I had rust at the bottom of both doors, the tail gate, and front fenders. I have a 04 F-250 without a drop of rust, a 06 F-350 the same, and a 08 Titan the same. Maybe I got a bad one but the rust made me take a hit when I traded my Dodge in. The interior was not on par at that time, may be now days but cheap switches, plastics, ect turned me off.

Like you said, past issues are hard to overlook. I have been bitten and now know what works.

Chris

My Ram 2500 CTD 2003 Has yet to rust, go figure. I do get it oil sprayed every other year and the box is line-xed and we get the salt up here.

You have to be kidding. The Ford motors, gas and diesel, have overall been very good. Same can be said with GM and Dodge. The worst diesel of all times had to be the 6.2/6.5 GM motors.
Not in my driveway they haven't! I've had an F-150 with stripped plugs, an F-350 diesel with broken rings and failed fuel pump, a Focus with a faulty ignition coil, fuel pump and leaky fuel rail, an Escape that was bought back under the Lemon Law for the same fuel rail problems 4 times, a Ranger with a broken timing belt, and the engine problems just kept piling up...
This whole 6.0 Ford thing got blown way out of hand. I know dozens of guys with these truck with very few issues. Way less than Dmax issues.
Wow, dozens of people! That must be representative of at least 0.000001% of all the 6.0l trucks sold. I guess I was wrong, those 12 trucks prove it was a great engine overall!
The motor is only part of the package. Drive line, chassis, brakes, body, electrical systems, ect all make up a good truck. When it comes down to it all the Ford leads the pack.
Well, the rest of the truck is pretty useless when the entire thing is at a dealer getting repairs.

Why????????????????? Dozens and dozens of people constantly post where the 12v Cummins engine is the best built engine for a pickup. Would you like me to compare it to the first year of the Cummins 6.7? The service manager at the 4th largest Dodge dealer nearly quit over all the problems they had when that engine came out. If I compared the 6.0 PSD to that iteration of the Dodge diesel, the Dodge looks like a POS!
Why compare a 5 yr old diesel to another 5yr old diesel? Oh I don't know, maybe because there as been just a little advancement in technology and maybe just maybe that 5yr old Cummins is a little more comparable to the 5yr Powerstroke. Please feel free to compare it to the first year of the Cummins. Having to replace an EGR valve is hardly a serious problem compared to the disaster of trying to replace headgaskets on the 6-leaker.
If that's the best you have, I suggest you get back on that monster 20 hp lawnmower with a loader, less than any lawn mower I have other than push mowers, and tool on your merry way. ;)
Now your trying to compare a 21hp diesel tractor to a couple of lawnmowers? PRICELESS!
No wonder you Phord Phans think you have the greatest thing since slice bread. Comparing apples to oranges makes them look pretty good.

Is that the assembly line that sets Ford cabs on a Dodge Chassis???:D

Now THAT was funny! Good one Egon. :D

:laughing::laughing: Yeah, When I first read that I was not logged in and didn't have time to reply, but for the last couple of hours everytime I thought of Egon's remark I'd start chuckling out load :laughing::laughing:

I like my Dodge but don't love the looks, I like Ford style better even though I think it was strongly influenced by Dodges retro look that first came out back around ~94?

That's how it would have to be for me, not just put a Cummins in a Ford, I'm not giving up my powertrain, I just want Fords cab, hood, fenders and nose.

Hmmmm, sounds like my one and only Dodge and 4 GM's. Actually the 2 GM cars were not bad, just lots of nickel and dime's, but the trucks were both POS.

Say what you want about the 6L but the most serious issue of my personal friends and clients that own them, well over 2 dozen, is a EGR valve on a 04 and a injector issue on a 03.

Guess I forgot what a expert you and that other guy owning them, not. I have first hand experience with 3 Ford Diesels and 1 Dmax. Hands down the Fords were 10 times better than the Dmax. I have no Cummins experience and you will never see me comment on them. I can tell you all about a certain 03 Ram 2500 I had with a Hemi. Motor was fine but the rest of that experience has keep me far away.

To be fair, on my 95 2500 CTD, the Bosch pump had to be replaced  At only ~50,000 miles, I thought it would be the last part to ever go bad, but I limped into a Cummins dealer (not Dodge dealer) and that's what they told me. I was in no position to get a second opinion, anyway $2,500. later for a rebuilt pump kinda hurt at the time. But in the long run, 12 years that was the only mechanical problem besides brakes and batteries. Always wondered if I didn't get taken for that pump, I thought they were bullet proof, but one of the Cummins techs told me it just happens sometimes :(

We are passionate about our trucks :)

Life would be boring if there were no choices. Most here are fair and balanced using facts and figures and real world experiances. Some like to push others buttons and set those more zealous brand followers off :mur:

As long as there is no personel attacks it could be entertaining as well as educational, we are talking about one of the largest purchases besides a home that most of us make. You do want to be sure you've made the right decision based on your own needs and wants.

Have to agree with you JB. I often thought back before the deisels took over, if the put dodge running gear in a ford body and frame with a 350 chev life woud be great.

What part of the Dodge Running Gear? Surely not a transmission.:laughing::laughing: They keep tranny shops doors open.

In all honesty the dream truck for me would be a F-350 SRW 4x4 with a Cummins 5.9L with Dana Axles packing Detroit Electric Lockers. As for the tranny either a Torque Shift or Allison. Both have the strong points.
