I'm not an expert at this, but it seems to me that if you just posted a design without it being patented, somebody could easily take it and modify it a little, then say that they did it before you did...it's not honest but I'm sure it's happened before. You would have a hard time proving otherwise.

and what would they use for proof that the slightly altered design existed at an earlier time?

wouldn't a forum posting date carry a lot more weight than an easily modified photograph? every time i recharge the batteries in my digital camera, it resets the date to 01/01/2003.

Internet logs or "posts' would not work to establish a time frame of development for a patent.

A "poor man's" patent can be done and recognized as legal by making a copy of the actual documents, sealing them in an envelope and mailing them to yourself. The post mark is a legal verification of the date. You then keep the SEALED envelope as part of the entire file- only to be opened by the court if it ever is being contested. The good thing about this method is that anyone saying they came up with the idea before you- has to have something better than your documentation.

Of course.... if you keep mailing things to yourself- people might think you are a bit crazy..... :confused2:

You would be better off following the directions at: The Poor Man's Patent, or How to Shoot Yourself in the Foot to make a research log. It is MUCH more convincing than mailing an envlope to yourself which only proves that you mailed yourself an envelope (not that it was closed or that the documents within were in the envelope when it was mailed).

More info: Does the "poor-man's-patent" really work?

Well, I claim the prize for best value for pounds lifted for $$ spent versus pounds of implement to facilitate lifting.

$$ = 0.0, I scavenged some used axles/hubs from scrap laying around

implement weight = less than 20 lbs for the axles... maybe a little more if you count the non dedicated chains.

lift weight = 2800 lbs of concrete culvert turned into a corner post. This culvert cannot be otherwise lifted because FEL bucket or forks add so much weight that relief valve pops first. I have numerous of these culvert corner posts and use the implement several times a year as I place them for new fence corners or replace old wood ones.

Best corner I've ever found...never rot, pull out of the ground, rust, tip. Axle shafts fit into holes manufactured in the culvert explicitly for lifting.

Quick set of front counter weights I put together. I use them when I'm brush hogging. Can be put on or off in 5 minutes.

How heavy are they? Appear to be two pieces of square tubing filled with concrete?

Does it sound sissy if I say that is a beautiful work of art. It would seem a shame to get it dirty.
