If you have pix I would take them on your situation.

Carl
Sorry, as usual I don't have any good pics of the repair and the machine is 900 miles away. Talked to my friend there today, coincidentally, and he was using it clear fencerows... he's used if far more than I have... :)

Jesus nut. Not all helicopters have them.

Jesus nut - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

It figures there'd be a Wiki page on that!

When I worked at the airport I was over near the shop and a mechanic came out with a crescent wrench that was every bit of 5' long. I was stunned by the size of it. I asked him what that was for and he said the Jesus nut on a helicopter. Of course, I had no idea what he was talking about, so he explained it as such (not direct quote, but close enough for story telling):

"This is for tightening the one nut on top of the helicopter that holds the rotors on. If it comes off, you are going to meet Jesus."

My jaw dropped.

Never thought of it that way before and have always thought of it that way since!

If I were Jesus, I wouldn't be very pleased to have my name associated with a zero-redundancy design of a survival-critical system. Some engineers and accountants would have some 'splaining to do.
