Mow with my bx24 or buy a zero turn mower?

I mow my front and side in 20 minutes (almost 1/2 acre) and that is the outcome..A BX is a better tool since it does more then single use ZTR. Cant install lawn sprinklers, move 30 yards of mulch, a little backhoe to play with! :)

And the mowing is not bad either.

For sure a BX is more versatile, and I love my BX. But if mowing is the only single job a machine needs to do, however, then the ZTR beats the BX hands down.

I mow about 6 acres with my BX. Would a z-turn be faster, yes. But it doesn't necessarily take me days with the tractor either. I would say for 2 acres, the 60" deck on the BX is more than fine. I think 4K for the deck is a little steep though...

The $4000 was for the deck and bagger setup.

Sure in price only..Speed it is a toss up.But again it is a single use tool..Why buy? My buddly bought a ZTR and the 2 months later he wants a BH job..I said you should have skipped the $8K ZTR bud..

Anyone had any problems with the weight of the BX on the yard? I have R4's and if it is at all wet it really seems to tear up the yard (of course I usually have the loader and shredder on).

..Speed it is a toss up...

Have to disagree with that (in general), though it depends upon the specific model. In general, for the same $$, it is MHO that the same $$ will gain more speed in a ZTR. There's also the issue of how well a BX is going to cut if you run it at highest speed in high range. Mine will not cut more than a tiny bit at that speed.

it is a single use tool..Why buy?.

Cause someone has a single use for it to do and it does the job both better and faster.

My buddly bought a ZTR and the 2 months later he wants a BH job..I said you should have skipped the $8K ZTR bud..

Yea, he made a mistake. He didn't know his needs. Some people do think it through and know their uses before they buy. For me, just like you, the BX is the best choice. But that's no reason to tell other people the BX is the only choice for them. It is important to see things from other people's perspectives too. For some situations, a ZTR really is a much better choice than a BX. Otherwise, there wouldn't be a market for them.

I've got a Troy Built ZTR that's just about had it. It's a 52" cut and will knock out about 5 acres in a couple hours. I do have the BX 25 with a 60" MMM that I'll be using a lot this season. Is it capable of mowing at top speed like the ZTR? If so, they are about eqaul on mowing speed. It's the quick turns that probably will make the Troy Built a little quicker I'm guessing.

The BX 2660 has a top speed of 8.1MPH, your BX25 is probably the same. Check to see what your ZTR's top speed is.

From what I've gathered, the Troy Bilt has a maximum forward speed of 6 MPH....also, I goofed, I think it's actually a 50" cut.

I'm guessing mowing time of the BX vs. the TB will probably be a wash. That's good! How fast do you guys with the BX MMM mow? Full speed, half speed, low range, high range????
