Hello

I have had my B2920 for about a year now. I now have 50 hours on it.

I called my dealer and they quoted me around 300 bucks for the service. They also recommended that I change the transmission fluid even though Kubota says only the filter. This is an extra 75 bucks.

I plan to do most of the service on the tractor myself, but planned to have the dealer do the first 50 hour service.

This price seems real high to me. What are your thoughts?

Thanks in advance.

When I bought my B2320, I had the dealer throw in all the filters to sweeten the deal. I do my own service. The hassle of transport. No thanks. Besides, I enjoy it and it gives me satisfaction and I know better than anyone it is done right. That I can do it for 1/2 price is merely a bonus.

I like doing all my own servicing.

If it was me.. I'd do oil and all.. since this oil was basically your break in oil.

75$ ain't much on a multi-thousand dollar machine.

the money you save on labor doing it yourself more than covers the oil cost..

Does $375 sound reasonable for this service? It seemed kind of high to me.

Thanks

considering the cost of the dealer oil and filters.. sound slike an hour and a half of labor, at 'mechanic' rate.

given that. it's what I 'expect'.. though.. that's why I do my own servicing... i work cheap.. :)

Prolly reasonable as far as dealer rates go. But lets say you pay $75 for the hydro fluid, another $50(?) for oil and filters. That means if your real deliberate and slow, like me, you get paid $250 labor for about 3-4 hours work. But in addition you don't have the time and hassle of transporting your tractor to a dealer. Then another trip to pick it up.

Change the engine oil and the filters as your manual directs. It may take you an hour if your slow. It usually takes more time getting the catch pan and wrenches together than doing the job.
I posted a thread with pictures on changing your own on a BX and it's easier to do the B.

I was having some medical issues when my BX2660 needed the initial and it was about $300, I have been doing my own on it and my L5030 since as it is not that hard and much cheaper.

The debate on transmission fluid will never end, so I won't even get into that.

It's really quite easy to do, so do it yourself. The only caution I would offer is that some have reported the hydraulic filters from the factory are on there really tight...you might want to get a HF oil filter pliar to get them off. I mean, for $5 it saves you some language.

The chain type pipe wrenches are MUCH more expensive but they are pretty much guaranteed to work.

Empire Level 28629 15" Chain Pipe Wrench

On my L48 it was necessary to attach a Come-along to the wrench's handle to spin loose the filter. Talk about tight!
