I have been thinking about building a canopy for some time now, always seems like I put it off until after I needed it. :) Anyway got a call the other day to do some bush hogging for someone, about a five hour job. The temps were pushing 100 so I decided to throw this together the night before at work and see how I liked having a canopy before spending a bunch of time and end up not liking on on the tractor. The main part of the framework will be able to but used on a permanent canopy when I build one, but I took a 4 foot X 5 Foot long piece of paneling and bolted to the framework and then hung a 12 volt fan, worked great.

Well, I've posted this so many times, I must sound like a broken record. But, yes, some kind of protection from the sun was a necessity for me in the Texas heat. The neighbor's old Oliver that I used so much for cutting and baling hay had one of the umbrellas and that was sure better than nothing. But when I bought my Kubota B2710, the dealer said the Wells Ag Company canopies were both stronger and cheaper than the Kubota canopies. I had a choice of diamond plate aluminum or steel painted to match the tractor. As you can see, I picked the steel and was well satisfied. There may be others as good, but I've never seen any better.

Way back in 1999, it cost me $295, but 12 years later, I have no idea what they cost now. And Wells Ag Company was located just a few miles north of my Kubota dealer so I don't think there was any shipping charge to the dealer.

Nice setup, Bird. I have this one in the aluminum, mounted a fan in the right front corner for A/C.
The aluminum will bend so I am a bit of a bobble-head when working under/around trees, trying to keep it out of trouble.

We put this canopy off of a neighbor's Case and it works great. Two grown men can sit on the front, very strong.

I stepped my rops back so the tube is partially open, then I just use a beach umbrella a couple Velcro straps keep it from bouncing around and when in the woods I just crank her closed. Umbrella cost me $15 it's a cheapy but it has lasted me 5 years. I only use it in the summer. I'm inspired by all the homemade canopies and may get around to making one. Though when I post a picture of it I'm moving the tractor outside

In the process of buying my bx2360, I wanted to get the Kubota sunshade and just throw it on the financing. My wife, who played Devil's Advocate through the whole process, put her foot down and wouldn't go for it (I know it sounds crazy for a few extra bucks a payment but we went from looking at $1800 Sears mowers to 14K Kubotas and she had to draw the line somewhere). Anyways, for yard mowing, the first thing I noticed was how careful I needed to be with the ROPS around some of our smaller trees with low branches. At first I thought, turns out not getting the sunshade was a good idea, it'd just get in the way. Now that I think about it though, the sunshade might actually make it easier to maneuver around those branches - instead of constantly cranking my head around to see if the ROPS will clear, having the sunshade in your field of vision might let you know right away of any potential collisions. Just wondering if anyone with a sunshade sees it that way?

Yep, you do have to watch where you're going whether you have a canopy or not. You can see the right rear of my canopy where I backed under a really big tree limb that wasn't as high as I thought it was. And the canopy was so strong I wasn't able to straighten that little wave.
