BUT, no amount of demonstrations, actual experiences etc will convince a none believer, it's as simple as that.. They will always ridicule anyone who says they can dowse, I know, I used to ridicule people too.....

No, no, no. No ridicule intended. My poor phrasing if it is taken that way. I simply don't believe it at all. It's sort of like religion. Hey, you can believe whatever you want, or nothing at all for that matter, and I'm certianly no person to ridicule you. Sorry if I came across that way. I guess I got carried away in stating that I simply do not have any belief that such a thing works.

riptides you you have tried hard to explain it...good job. I guess my seeing them cross so many times over the years around here has me convinced. From in the oilfield to city utillities and a heck of alot in between. We have the best tracers money can buy,but at times they are useless. And you non-believers should quit tossing the forked stick water well seekers in the same discussion.I am amazed so many are being so hard on riptides .Its a wonder he still trys to explain it at all. I have been a heavy equipment operator for 35 years and could not fault anything RippySkippy has said. And I dont even have a dog in this fight.

My wife had no way knowing where I was but when I crashed she was there before I could lift myself from the ground. She told me that she knew that something bad happened to me and drove exactly to the place of the accident. There were other instances when I wondered how did she knew certain things.

Yup I was gonna say something about premonition, how a woman will sit up in bed in the middle of the night and know something happened to one of her kids. No science to prove this either, but it's been happening since time began.

My experience with people that witch things is that when if fails, there is always a reason, you know, there must be a lot of underground water here, it must be the overhead electric line etc. Nobody remembers they failures, but the remember all the times it worked.

Is anybody that witches water lines going to admit it didn't work one time?

I don't believe in it at all but I was able to locate a field tile once. I did find a water line but wouldn't dig until my neighbor brought over tone generator finder thingy that we hooked to the electrical line going to the well pump. It seems like I can do it but I have no faith in it. If I was gonna be in Texas I would bring some of my own home-brew beer and give it a shot for a fun afternoon.

...snipped... Is anybody that witches water lines going to admit it didn't work one time?

You know that' a tough question. I agree with earljr59 about differences existing between "witching for water" and "locating underground items." If I had to "label" myself, I would fall into the locator side of things...

A lady on Youtube claims she "asks the wire questions and has the wire show her a "yes" and "no" response. Ok...that screams "out there" to me, and I guess I'm like many here and say "not buy'n it." It's not necessary to talk to the wires, or enter some Transcendental Meditation state of mind. To anyone that says otherwise, I'd be the first to doubt their sanity and be the leader of skeptic line. These people are looking for publicity, and want "their gift" to appear larger than life and unexplainable with "near perfect" results. All I'm looking for is a stink'n water/electrical/gas/fiber line, no more, no less.

Where I'm going with this is that locating underground items falls into two purposes; 1) to locate a known, previously un-located object, or 2) to deem an area "all clear" for excavation. I've done both. When I needed to find whatever I was looking for, I found it. When I've swept and area to verify that it's clear, it was. I know that sounds like some flaky circular logic...but I don't know how else to describe it. Will it fail me some day? I hope not.

This is NOT my day job, or even a side line, I've never been paid or taken money for locating lines, that's not my purpose. It's a tool I fall back on when needed. It's what I use when I want to do something as innocuous as planting a row of trees and the fibre-line to the house is in the area. Or as I mentioned earlier, my neighbor wanting to connect his footing drain to an unmarked field tile. One-Call would have located the fibre line if we called them, they wouldn't even attempt to locate the drainage tile....what are you going to do? You could dig up the whole yard looking for the line(s), or resort to what you know works. For me it's those little bent up, mashed copper wires.

I've never "witched" for water, never claimed to. My radar is still on high alert for that only because I've not experienced success or lack thereof first hand. Others can provide their experiences if they choose.

RippySkippy,

Thanks for your response. I believe there are some mysteries in life, some good , and some bad. It is a good thing if one can have a belief that only some people have, and feel confident in their ability to accomplish what they say they can, or state what they know with irrefutable certainty.

I wished I had some special skills that others could never acquire, but alas, I am stuck with I have now. Perhaps it can be learned, but I am kind of old and set in my ways, with a skeptical outlook on things. Hey, look around you now. Do you feel good about the education system of today, and the future of our country and the people running it. Can you believe in that?

If anyone thinks they have been hurt by my skepticism, I am truly sorry. I still can't believe it until I see it work with my own set of rules.

J_J and Dargo,

No hard feelings on this end. I hope others have taken this the same way. I enjoy a forum where by friendly discussion is the norm. Generally I feel skeptical/critical outlooks can healthy. It is not wrong to challenge statements/claims. In my last post, I hope I provided insight that at times I too am skeptical and on this topic, especially of "those that profess unusual powers."

I'll never be able to explain how or why it works...it just works.

Maybe someday our paths will cross, and we can raise a beer together. I'd buy the first round. Of course my mug must have have copper wire encased handles.....KIDDING...just kidding!!!!

:drink:

I would encourage others that "tuned into this thread" (ok horrible pun), give it a whirl on your own place, what do you have to loose, especially if no one is around? The only person you have to be honest with is yourself.

Cheers!

Did it ever happened to you that you look into a fridge to find in example mustard and it is not there. Then your wife opens the fridge and the mustard appears, like a magic, in her hand? Happens to me all the time.
Since my wife apparently posses unusual powers I will try to talk her into dowsing and report how it worked for her.

I sure hope you guys don't hold those rods in a boat on water, they just might start spinning and pull you out of the boat.
"

 Don't give me ideas. Okay you gave me an idea. I'll get on a boat tomorrow and try it. Anyone else with me?

I bet it will be the best time I've ever had. :D

On a serious note. I had it work for me. And I didn't believe in it either. I put it over a known water line, and I got the magnetic pull.
