Diesel exhaust fluid

You got this all wrong. Its GM that has had trouble with the heated washer fluid and DEF fluid heaters. Ford has had no wide spread issues with either. GM's brilliant fix for the washer fluid was to simply deactivate it, not fix it.:confused2:

Chris

Ford's issue was their cruise contol units catching on fire and burning stuff down...Now the '97-'04 F150's are being recalled for the gas tanks falling out...Fair is fair Chris.

Add to that the exploding gas tank on the Ford Escort.

unless you use an aftermarket kit to delete the system (technically illegal) then yes you HAVE to use it.

It is my understanding that the truck will refuse to run if the urea tank is empty just like it would if it were out of fuel.
Interesting. I Learn something new everyday. Things just tend to get more complicated. I wonder if they're do the same for tractors...

I absolutely love the truck with the exception of the need for exhaust fluid. It has a lot of torque and hp, more than I need.

I agree but I guess its a sign of the times. I also have a 11' 6.7L, 25 bucks for DEF fluid over the course of 6-8,000 miles isn't really a big deal for me considering diesel maintenance is more expensive than gas.

the DEF pretty much put the nail in the coffin for me buying a diesel truck recently. i just don't trust anything that is in it's first year of production.

It was not Escort, it was the Pinto.

Another Ford recall in the works...The Chinese made 5 and 6 speed manuals in the Mustangs are having some trouble shifting while under acceleration....It's not all GM as it would appear on this thread.

Hey, every company has a recalls. I have never said I have a problem with that. I have had them with Ford trucks for things like Cruise Control, Lug Nuts, ect. My Nissan had one in the spring for a fuel level sending unit. Where I have a issues is when they do a half arsed fix or no fix at all.

Taking away a option even as small as a heated WWF unit sets a president. What next, the radio? The power seats? The AC? Can you do without these items? Sure, but the options are part of the reason you buy a vehicle.

Personally I've never seen the need for heated washer fluid, and probably I'm not alone..That's probably why they sent checks to the owners after that option didn't pan out...Never heard of AC or radios being recalled and disconnected. That one wouldn't stand for any manufacturer.

As far as power seats, I set mine when I bought it 9 months ago and haven't touched the controls since...Same goes for the pedal adjustments.

I say this living in a cold winter part of the country, I'd actually like to see someone invent heated wiper blades instead.

Just jousting with you Chris...All in good fun.
