why one should ALWAYS carry your weapon

Not criticising, but considering a .45's stopping power....
How do you get 8 rounds from .45 in someone?? wife gonna hold him up??

The last 7 would be in the floor, which might be hard to explain.

Tax stamp on silencer is$200.00 Per...

Yeah, but thinking about it...if 5030 has a silencer, he probably did that paperwork when he bought it.

There's no getting around the $200 federal tax stamp though. Silencers or SBR's, got to pay to play.

Please educate me. What is the legitimate use for a silencer by a sport shooter, hunter or for personal protection? I can easily understand the value to a criminal or assassin.

Island....I am thinking one of the best ways to market a product and boost sales is to tell folks they can't have it without paying a premium and jumping through some hoops ...then folks who have absolutely no real use for the product all of a sudden have an insatiable desire to possess it and will pay the fee just to have one...Just a thought but I agree with you ...Assassins and criminals could use one but I can think of no reason a law abiding citizen would have a use for a silencer...

Island Tractor,
great question! At the range, having a silencer is less disturbing to other participants. In rural areas where you can shoot outdoors on your property the same thing applies. For defense in the home the same thing applies. The thugs, thieves and murders can and do get them illegally. Do you have an objection to law abiding, tax paying citizens being able to own and use them?

Folks who do a lot of shooting, if they don't want substantial hearing loss, must wear hearing protection of some kind...either ear plugs, ear muffs or both. I would be willing to try a "muffler" as an alternative. Bystanders, if in the area of the muzzle blast, can have significant hearing loss after even one incident.

This is the most dangerous question regarding the 2nd Amendment - "I can think of no reason a law abiding citizen would have a use for a _________"

Ask the folks in the UK or Australia what happens when . . . . . .

I can think of no reason a law abiding citizen would have a use for a Semi Auto Rifle?

I can think of no reason a law abiding citizen would have a use for a Semi Auto Shotgun?

I can think of no reason a law abiding citizen would have a use for a Semi Auto Pistol.

I can think of no reason a law abiding citizen would have a use for a ANY Handgun?

I can think of no reason a law abiding citizen would have a use for a ANY FIREARM?

I wondered about that but thought everyone at a range wears hearing protection anyway (except Ted Nugent).

Do I recall correctly that one of the things that happens with a silencer is that the bullet velocity is cut dramatically? Am I right? If so doesn't that diminish stopping power?

Seems very silly for defense in the home. Are you really worried about one or two shots once in a lifetime? The silencer would make the gun more awkward to handle so might defeat the primary purpose.

By the way, I don't have any objection to law abiding citizens owning them. I just wonder if you have to be an over the top gun weenie to want one badly enough to pay a few hundred bucks to have one. Really, I understand gizmos and sometimes you just gotta have one but I just wanted to know if there was a more practical reason. (By the way, that's a lot of beer money, I'd sit down and imagine the pleasure I'd get from 15-20 cases of Becks or Pilsner Urquel:licking: waiting for me in my garage before I blew that sort of money on a gadget I'd probably use twice and then stick in a drawer). But if having a silencer rocks your boat and you are not an assassin or highwayman then go for it!
