"The 4000 series is made in the US but the engines are still Yanmar. JD makes there own engines above about 60HP and the smaller stuff is Yanmar."

Not so.

All 4x20 series use John Deere PowerTech
4 Cylinder Liquid Cooled
Turbocharged Diesel Engine

4005 and 4105 use Yanmar Liquid Cooled TurboDiesel Engine.

Thanks for the correction, as I said I was going from memory. The US is still a manufacturing powerhouse, you just would won't find much of it in a big box store.

In my area of up-state N.Y. John Deere and International and New Holland, Kubota rule the roost, though the Internationals are the older big (1066,1486) tractors.Mostly corn and hay done here as around me there are quite a few large dairy farmers.

on my 3 mile long road, we have a 9N, a Jubalee, a narrow front end JD and 2 Bobcat CT235's. When I bought mine I did not know the guy at the far end of the road had just bought one from a different dealer

for what its worth, Kubota shares their high level AEM data at the yearly dealer meetings. About 3-4 years ago they crossed 50% market share for under 40hp (PTO). Overall, this number has continued to grow at 2-3% per year and this year was an all time high. If anyone has lost share, its been CNH has they've changed from ISM to LS models. Deere would have probably lost some early in the year since they had some supply problems. Kubota and Deere have made up 80-85% of the market for the last 10-15 years. Followed by CNH, Mahindra, Kioti/Bobcat.. beyond that it gets fuzzy, they are all too small.

The next 3-4 years are going to get real interesting as Tier4 hits.

These are sloppy numbers, so don't quote me.

I think Case-IH are probably most common here in any size , definateley #1 for combines . As for "NEW" tractors mid size 100-200hp there are a lot of NH coming around now .Kubota and MF are rare !

I suspect that Mahindra and Kioti are taking more market share from Kubota than JD in the small tractor category.

In my area a big multi-location dealer picked up Mahindra last year and they already have New Holland. I can't say I've seen a Mahindra of any size out in a field or on someone's property though. When I priced them they weren't competitive with Kioti but I didn't give them a chance to match prices either.

Since Kubota does really well in the subcompact world (under 40hp) that is their favorite market share figure and would be mine also. Deere on the other hand does not calculate market share for under 40hp (they probably do, would seem silly to not, but it is not shared). Everyone bases their market share figures on their own interpretation of what is sold in the market. Rely heavily on ucc filings, etc, etc. I think each oem can tweek these figures to thier advantage. Or like in Deere's case not even rate the figures that one of their main competitors use against a small segment of thier equipment. I think it is much more difficult to track a common cash purchased item like a cut tractor vs a combine or a sp corn chopper. I am not saying any mfg figures a false but that they are not peer reviewed figures and are a best guess scenario based on what the market potential was vs your sales. I think purchase levels in the US will matter less and less to any of these worldwide company's.
