Make sure anytime the PHD is operating everyone is clear. I was doing ER hours and saw a guy come in that got caught up in the PHD and broke both legs, arm, rib and generally looked chewed up. His buddy was sitting on the tractor and accidentally moved the tractor and before he knew it he was a rag doll on spin cycle. He did not stay long in the ER, they sent him straight to surgery to stop the internal bleeding.

Mike,

I am nervous of the PHD and make sure everyone keeps clear.

I had an adult helping me yesterday with every hole, not the girls. But I'm not sure how I can run the PHD by my self yet... I treat it like it is going to explode any second...

I do not want anyone to do "The Twist".

David

PS - You'd be proud of my girls. they built and started and maintained the fire. All I did was turn a spot on the brick pile/ foundation remnants into a nice fire pit. You taught them well!

I have a process question or two.

1 - I set and tamped the gate posts and the first corner, but the inline posts I am nailing on the boards and I will tamp the posts down level after I get the boards up. Is that right, wrong or just weird?

2 - Spacing of the boards. I am setting the posts approx 2.5' deep, leaving approx 4.5' height. I am setting the top board at the top of the post, and spacing them 12" between boards, boards are actually 6.5" wide do the bottom boad typically should be ~10.5" but occasionally as much as 12" or so from the ground. Is that OK?

Thanks all for all of the avice and encouragement.

Sunday the girls and I tried to spend a couple hours on the fence but it did not go well. I could not keep the generator running and I could not get the borrowed nail gun to shoot nails. We made some progress, we got the 32' souther side of the gate fence to at least have all the boards with at least 1 nail at each end.

Pic is what we finished Sunday.

Today Jonnyc1999 and I did about 48' of fence on the North side of the gate.

Pics and details are here in "Today's Seat Time" thread...

Be well all,
David

It got dark before I could take pictures tonight. I will take some tomorrow before we start.

A buddy from Church came over. he and I finished the 88' section jonnyc1999 and I started the other day. The we did some earth moving with the bucket to try to level the fence line a bit for the next 176' section.

We set the far post and ran string and there is a good 18' rise I MUST account for still, so we are breaking it into a 128' and 48' section to account for the rise. We set the post at 128' mark and started setting the posts from the far end to that post.

Be well all,
David

35 years & no rot? No concrete then I assume...that's what kills any post eventually.

I don't think you will replicate that stat with the "new" treated posts....I think they just dip them in Green Tea:laughing:.

Most say that concrete will rot treated posts. I have never had this issue. I have never put a treated post in the ground without concrete. Wouldn't even consider it. I learned this by watching the state of Ohio put fence up along roads. They use concrete.

We need to hand rake all the old walnuts out of the grass, and get rid of all the twigs.

David,

Ran across this nifty tool the other day for picking up nuts (or anything similar)

image-3513724744.png

http://www.nutwizard.com/

This tool digs the walnuts from grass, sticks, etc. super easy to empty... It comes with a heavy gauge wire bail that fits on a five gallon bucket. Just roll the nut tool back and forth (yes-even one handed!!), then lower the tool onto the bail in the bucket, twist and presto slamo it is empty.

Very cool tool.

Frank,

I am VERY sorry you are having a pain issue. I have & have had a couple and they stink. Get the carpl tunnel fixed. Not fixing mine sooner has cause other painful problems...

I wish you could come help too! Every TBN'er I've met so far (3 I believe) has been an outstanding guy who I am proud to be friends with.

QUIT TEASING! What did ya buy? A Harley? Another Tractor? A TLB? WHAT!!!!

MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!
Blessings upon all TBN'ers!

The fence is shaping up nicely. It's wonderful that you have had some great help in getting your project done. Also having those new tools....,sweet!! Sure speeding up the production.

I was looking at the last set of pictures,,,beautiful property you have. I am happy for you, and hope things work out with the job offer. We both know if it is meant to be - it shall be.

Merry Christmas to you and your family.

Dean,

I am blessed far beyond my merit. The good news is at least I know it.

The help from my Church buddies and TBN Buddies has been awesome too.

The tools are a necessity, and I'm converting my "S" Corporation from a High Tech consultancy to "Agri-Business" so the company is funding the tools with the last dregs of it's bank balance...

It is a cool chunk of land. it has character and potential that has been left neglected for a long time. I'm trying to fix that, but I'm also forced to eat this elephant "one bite at a time".

This job situation is very different for me. It is not typical that I am unhappy at work, and less than happy with the outside potential work, and even worse, struggling with decision making. Those are new problems for me...

MERRY CHRISTMAS to you, yours, an especially your new GRANDSON!

A couple photos of my fencing project this summer. I am new to horses, but EVERYONE that I spoke to encouraged me to make the pasture and fence as safe as possible. Apparently, a horse can find some way to injure itself on just about anything.

Hey Neighbor! What part of VA are you in?

That is a BEAUTIFUL fence!

I hope mine looks half as good when I am done!

I too have been advised to watch for things that could allow easy injury, and to remove all the things that if they eat them will make them sick (cherry tree, walnut & locust trees, etc).

Be well!

Wow, you guys are giving me a SERIOUS case of fence envy! I wish I knew some of the things that I know now when I built my fence. It would have turned out much much better.

David, you're making a ton of progress! Good job buddy!

Jon,

Thanks but kdm0811's looks FAR BETTER than mine! That is a beautiful fence he built, and I want to go see it and steal ideas...

I'm doing OJT as they say and it seems to me I am actually learning something! 3 people seems to be the most efficient so far, I just wish the 2nd nail gun would shoot reliably...

I think my buddy from OK might come over today or tomorrow to help and he and I will pretty easily finish what I plan to do for now on the wood fence.

My wife wants to plan the "Reception" for the horses... You & GF are invited of course... :D

Be well,
David
