Also David :
Slow down on The Sabbath and keep the Kioti nail gun in single firing mode.

;)

Boone

Boone,

If it is fun, it is not "work", right?

I try not to work on the Sabbath, but sometimes it is either fun, necessary, or the only time I can get help (DC is a commuter community and it is impossible to get people on weekdays due to 3-4 hours of drive added to work days).

I'm not going to put the nail gun in bump fire mode, I'm not that good of a carpenter!:)

Be well,
David

Hi David,
I think even at 1 acre per horse you can't do 24/7 ops.
Randy

The "general rule of thumb is 2.5-3 acres per horse" but that varies widely depending on the soil and moisture. That's for good pasture, not something in Utah or Nevada.

One acre per horse will end up barren.

Ken

Randy & Ken,

Once the 5 acres is finished and ALL pasture I will subdivide it into 3-4 pastures and rotate grazing. I also will not have 5 horses for a few years. 2 now, 3 or 4 maybe in a year or so. 5th after that (andd it will be a baby).

I plan to log again and expand pastures again in 4-7 years.

I will also supplement some with feed and hay, etc.

I gotta start somewhere...

Be well,
David

Yesterday a good friend from Church came over and we ran the 600' of ElectroBraid.

The fiberglass posts work, only one of them did I break the plastic "step in" part off on a hard spot of ground, but they seem to bend easily. I'm going to get nylon line and stake them to provide more stability.

Also I have a couple corners that sinply are not strong enough so I will get a couple metal T posts for those.

The solar charger and grounding rod etc. are not installed yet.

We finished running the fence and decided to do some shooting for the rest of the afternoon

Thanks & HAPPY 2012!
David

David
Best Wishes to You All,etc for 2012 !
What solar charger are you going to be using ? (Parmak,Field Guardian,Zareba,HF,etc).

Boone

Boone,

Zareba is what I got from TSC.

I'm adding metal T-posts for the weak corners today.

Col 3:1-17 was this morning family devotional.

Thanks,
David

I have an update, and I have a question...

Update - Yesterday I added 4 metal T-Posts to the stressed out corners and I adjusted the fence line deeper into the uncleared area to keep the fence tight without cutting the ElectroBraid rope. I planned for 548' of electric fence, I put in approx 600' (I just used the whole spool of 1200', started at one end and doubled back). So the enclosed area is a little bit larger than I originally planned. I adjusted the fiberglass post locations to reduce sag in the line.

QUESTIONS! - The instructions are not very clear on wiring up the solar Zareba. The BLACK (-) post on the charger seems to run straignt to the grounding rod, and the RED (+) post needs to run to the ElectroBraid rope.

I only have one 1200' rope doubled back at the far end (to provide 2 lines on the fence). I presume I only need to connect ONE wire to ONE end of the rope. Right? O must I cut the far end and have 2 seperate ropes?

Grounding Question - The guy at TSC said I only needed one grounding rod because I'm not going very far. I have VERY wet ground. Where there are multiple wires/ropes it is advised to make one of them a grounded wire. I can cut the far end and make this into TWO seperate 600' strands. Is that what I should do? (I believe in effect then, only the top wire is "hot".

Thanks in advance,
David

HAPPY 2012!!!

You can connect it to one wire/rope and it does not have to be a loop it can just dead end...either-or.
It will work with one ground, but it will not be as strong and you want it to operate at top strength so I would add 2 more ground rods(hey they are cheap...don't chinch now:laughing:)

Did you get the 100 mile Zareba and did you spring for the digital tester? I had a hard time getting the cash out for the tester, but I use it every time I work on the fence and it instantly tells me if I have a short and how bad.
