How do you tie down tractors when hauling on a trailer?

Maryland DOT requires four separate chained corners with four separate rachet binders if the implement is over 10,000 lbs. If under 10k than just two chains and two rachet binders to cover the four corners or properly rated rachet straps would be ok.

My JD 3520 is under 10k but I still use Grade 70 5/16 chain and hooks with rachet binders. I put a clevis in the draw bar and run the chain thru and hook on each side then I run a chain thru the loader and hook to each side there.

Better safe than sorry.

I think he is refering to how you have your tractor boomed down. The way you have it doesn't quite pass muster.

It has four 10,000 lb break-strength straps attached to the loader supports holding it in place. Each strap has a working load of 3,333 lbs. I've made a dozen trips and the rig hasn't moved an inch.

Yeah, it COULD break loose, but, an asteroid COULD wipe us all out tomorrow.

Nunyabinis, I think much of their concern centers around your tractor being fastened to angle iron uprights from the loader mount, as well as having heavy implements more or less unsecured, on a trailer that is probably a little overloaded.

I've seen much worse on the roads, and I believe you when you say you haven't had trouble. But doing something repeatedly without a bad outcome does not make it safe or proper.

With some better tie down points and securing to different parts of the tractor, and better securing your implements I think you would be ok for occasional use, though still a bit overloaded on the trailer.

The flail is attached to the tractor's TPH. There are four straps attached to the tiller.


I'm reminded of a True Story:

Many years ago WIS TV proposed to build a huge TV antenna in down town Columbia. There was an out-cry at the Public Hearing with folks asking what would happen if a big storm blew the tower over. The tower engineer was in attendance. He addressed the crowd and said that if big enough, a storm COULD blow the tower over.... but the storm would have to be so big that there would be nothing left for the tower to fall on.

The tower was constructed and everyone lived happily ever after. As a matter of fact, the tower became a huge attraction every year at Christmas because they would string lights from the top and it looked like a gigantic Christmas tree from afar.

One last thing. That's a Hudson Brothers trailer built by Americans in the Great State of North Carolina.


It's built like a tank. For what I paid for it evidently an M1A1 main battle tank.

I usually run strap threw rear rims,one threw front rims,one threw hole on loader and one threw 3point when have boxblade,when i have shredder one threw 3point and one on the back by wheels.

When I hauled my sons JD used just one
