Then what is the purpose of the two centered tabs/hookup points if there are no underside hookups?

I added a photo to my last post to show the brackets.

The purpose is it will distribute the load at (when picking/pulling up) at 4 points instead of two a less likely chance of bending the lip at the outer ends.

The bottom brackets are only for connecting the cable and do not support the rake on the bucket.

Also the V of the teeth grabs brush better than my tooth bar. I will use the tooth bar for digging and the rake for brush removal.

I agree. I just got off the phone with Brad at RR and he verified your explanation. He stated that the brackets are mass produced with holes in them and there are no hookup purposes for those inner bracket, only for the support to be distributed along the bucket equally.

Also, as per the instructions, if you have a thick bucket you might have to trim the downward facing tab on the upper bracket with a saw. I had to take 3/8" off the four tabs for my thick HD Kubota bucket.

On my 54" bucket looks like a good mounting alternative would be to weld a bar on top of the bucket and then chain the rake to the top bar...
I don't think that cutting the rake and re-welding is a good option...

Tried to add these pics?? to prev. post.

What did you use to get the tabs off to be able to move them in? Im thinking I have a cutoff wheel on my grinder that may eventually get through it. Don't want to loose too much material from the tab in the process.

thanks,
Mike

istinthot, are you talking about the tabs or the upper brackets?

The tabs are the little piece of metal pointing downward toward the base of the bucket on the upper bracket. They give the rake a tight fit on the bucket.

To trimmed the tabs (on the upper brackets) I used a Milwaukee portable band saw similar to the one pictured at this web site. It's a handy saw for many things, beats a hacksaw.

Because of the angle, my 4" grinding wheel did not get the complete tab. With a bigger grinding wheel it would work OK.

Will you be able to drag the bottom (smaller) rake edge on the ground by doing this? The raking with the bottom rake gets some of the roots the upper rake breaks off. The bottom rack also is useful in pushing the brush into a pile and it also smooths the area pretty.

Thanks for the heads up.

Picked mine up after my dump run Saturday. Gave it a try on some small pines. Wish I had it a the begining of last summer. This comming spring it will come in handy.

Fit my 68" bucket perrrficly

I had to grind almost all of the tabs down flat to fit my hd bucket and bolt-on cutting edge. I used my 4" grinder upside down, using the top of the wheel to grind. Took all of five minutes total. Of course...if you have a guard on the grinder that won't work quite as well. I was wearing my Orange County Choppers shirt, so I figured I was covered. :D

The longer cables fit my bucket the best, so now I have the shorter cables stashed behind the back seat of the truck with the tow straps and clevises for extra rigging.
