72 inch Rachet Rake on sale at TSC $199

I had to laugh when I saw you cheater spear. The bucket angle on the round bale picture just didn't seem tilted enough to hold the bale even with the ratchet rake.

LOL.....thats what I was trying to figurre out...just didn't look right.

....I also used it to clean out the rain gutters on my barn but no pics of that as I don't want the safety police to jump on me; I had to stand the tractor up on its back tire to reach them (don't worry I had the boxblade on so I wouldn't go over backwards). .... I really didn't split wood or clean gutters with the RR. I was just kidding.

Well that explains why all my gutters peeled off, I thought my nails were bad. Now if I can just get my tractor front end down off the facia.

Just as a follow-up...
Got my rake the other day and hope to hook it up to the bucket this weekend...
Too much rain but I'm still itching to see what I can tear up...

Finally tried mine today and it fit my JD 3032e without any modifications. I am glad I found this thread because I have wanted one for a while but I would have eventually bought the middle sized one. But the sale got me to buy the bigger one and now my dad and I can share one. It sticks out each side about one tooth, but brackets are inside the bucket.

All I can say is wow. I actually got mine out in the woods today while was cutting firewood. It is unbelievable how it grabs logs and brush. I popped out two good size stumps. Once it bites it does not let go. It is way way way more effective than my tooth bar for working in the woods and brush. The toothbar just slips over everything. I am amazed.

My FEL bucket is about 60" wide so the 72" RR would have the strap brackets too far to the outside. But for $199 as opposed to $329 for the next smaller size, I'd rather go with the 72" if I can find one. Also, the 72" is made from thicker steel than the smaller one - 5/8 in steel compared to 1/2 in.

But - I am not a welder nor do I know anyone who is. What might I expect to pay to have a local metal fab shop do the work of moving the brackets inward by one tooth on each side - and perhaps cut off the outermost 4 inches making it a 64" rake?

Or should I just buy the the smaller rake at the higher price?

Any input appreciated - thanks.

I figure moving the two outboard brackets would cost you about $50...if you have a cutting wheel and removed the brackets, it would save you more.
