Grading Land Price GS1572 or GS2596 Grading Scraper?

Hey guys,

We own a RV park with lots of gravel roads to keep up with, and we're using a Kubota L3240 tractor to do it with. Land Pride obviously recommends the 1572 model for our size tractor, but I'm wondering if I'd be okay getting the larger 96" wide unit instead? My thoughts is that I can make less passes and distrurb our guests less with the larger unit, but I wanted to make sure the tractor can handle it okay too. The weight difference is from 890lbs to 594lbs, so roughly 300lbs. Anybody see any issues or reasons to get the smaller unit? Thanks for the help,

Your tractor simply will not handle the 96" unit. If you look at %, it weighs 50% more, is 33% wider and will mover 33% more material. There will be times when your tractor will struggle with the 6 footer. Go with the 72" and be happy with how well it works.

When you say handle, what do you mean exactly? In low gear it won't pull it or what does that mean?

Your tractor weighs what, maybe 3500-4000lbs with the loader? It simply does not have the mass even if it had the power to be able to make use of the 96" unit. I have a 1400lb 7 footer that can stop my 12,000lb 75hp tractor in 4 wheel drive. I have a 700-800lb 5 footer that I pull with my 32hp 5000lb tractor. I would not want a 6 footer for that tractor. Now the graders that you are looking at are a bit lighter than what I have, but you still have a lot of blade width digging in. Do some checking here on TBN, there are only a couple of guys that use 8' graders and they all have tractors that are quite a bit bigger than yours. Do you have a box blade? How wide is it? I doubt that it is 8' wide. The grader is going to put as big if not bigger load on the tractor than the box blade does.

Get whatever you want, I'm just trying to steer you in a direction that will work good for you with what you have.

"...less passes." or 1 pass? Given a 12 foot wide road you would do 2 passes to cover with 6 or 8 foot grader and 6 would be easier on your unit.

I've been using a GS1572 (594 lbs with shanks) with my L3940 for about 8 months now. Seems to be a very good fit for each other. Yes the GS1572 can stop the tractor, especially of course with the tines down, but I can dig pretty aggressively with it.

What about the GS2584 for you? (7 footer; 822 lbs with shanks) (for the record the GS2596 is 890 lbs with shanks)

I do think my tractor would pull the 7 footer OK, & maybe even the 8 footer, but the tractor would obviously get stopped more often. It really depends on what you're doing: Light gravel smoothing would probably be no problem with either the 84 or 96. Heavier material moving will be more questionable. Digging clay-ish probably not too good.

I really appreciate the help guys. I'm going to go with the GS1572 after your comments. I was using the box blade today to grade the roads, and it's a pain in the butt to have to constantly watch it, drop out dirt, etc. It's not worth the hassle to me. I really appreciate the help,

I agree with the previous advice. A 6 footer also allows you to slope each side down on a 12 foot lane so the center is slightly higher for rain runoff. The last thing you want is a flat surface that allows the water to pool up.

Mine came with them, & my Land Pride manual shows them in the pic, & lists them, not as optional. I didn't even know you could get it without them. Are the slots for them there in the front box member? I wondered if they just accidentally left them off? I'd ask! :thumbsup:

I'll be darned! I didn't request them but got them (again, paid $1,400 total). Will have to re-look at my brochure tomorrow to make sure I'm remembering correctly ... not that I guess it matters now!

That's what I figured. Capital City Equipment in Des Moines is who I got it from and they're apparently not ethical, because when I asked he said they're optional. Ridiculous...

I'm sorry Chris, that I didn't realize the shanks were optional & could warn you. If you haven't used yours, yet, maybe you could swap it?

OK, I just looked, & No it does not say optional.

It just says "Heat Treated Scarifier Shanks"

I don't see a date on this catalog, but I grabbed it from my Kubota dealer's Land Pride catalog stack either back in June 2010 when I bought my tractor or sometime after that, can't recall, but June 2010 at the earliest (never even looked at tractors before that!). Of course this is not to say that their stack of catalogs was current at the time, & of course it sounds like Land Pride has changed this item since then.

I was saying my Land Pride hard copy catalog doesn't, but that it may have changed since 2010.

However ... I need to amend again: I turned the page to the box blade/ grading scraper specifications charts page, & it says "Scarifier Shank Construction (optional)" for all 5 of their grading scraper models.

K, wish they would have mentioned that when I ordered it. I paid $1,400 for it without them, so kind of frustrating.
