Oil & Fuel 50 hrs is coming up fast. Flush???

Thanks for the tips ON84. Ya, if I do myself I will order a filter kit. There is a guy on eBay that has complete oem kits for about $150 delivered. Just pricing out the oil and filters and it's gonna be in the $500 range total. The 30 liters of hydraulic fluid being the killer. Oh well. Maybe I'll win a few bucks this year at the weigh offs. :)

Does the filter kit include more than the hyd. hst and engine oil filter? I'm pretty sure my 3 were $120ish at the dealer. Also look for a sale on shell spirax at TSC, I got 20L pails for $58 last fall... Should've bought more!

OK, after dealing with Kioti about my cab, I've made a few contacts there. I sent them an email this morning and recieved the following response. I'm not including any of their full names or email address.

> I undeerstand the confusion concerning the fifty hour service. It has been open for discussion before. KIOTI reccommends changing all fluids at a fifty hour initial break-in service. The reasoning for this is too remove any material that may become dislodged or created as gears mesh themselves together. While KIOTI has very close tolerances in machining, the meshing or wearing in of gear sets may produce very fine particles that may or may not be captured by the filter. It is always a good rule to exchange the initial fluid out after the first fifty hours to flush the system thus removing any particulates and replace the filters as well. As the old adage goes, " A ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure." Protection for your investment! Any further questions, feel free to contact me. Thanks!

Apparently, dealers are not clear on the proper protocol for the 50 hr service either as conflicting messages are being sent.

The Kioti owners manual for both CK and DK models says it should be done, but the shop manual for the DK models (I'm not sure about the CK line) says not to change until 400 hrs and that only the filters need to be changed at 50hrs.

The hst itself doesn't have gears but there are speed range gears, differential gears, and the pto engagement gears. All these things use the same oil.

Regardless of when you choose to change engine and hydraulic oil, don't piss away money on Amsoil. It is a cult product and grossly over rated and over priced. Simple Rotella or Rotella synthetic are more than adequate. Don't drink Amsoil koolaid.

I can't find synthetic rotella 10w40 anywhere. Only 15w40. My manual says 10w40 only.

Chris,
My dealer says 15-40 shell rotella is all they use (I just checked my email from him again to be sure). I picked up a large pail full at Canadian Tire when it was on sale 25% off a few months back.

Unless you live in the north pole I wouldn't sweat that one. 15w40 works fine and is what all the autoparts stores sell for diesel trucks.
