Pistol Safety

My farm is 20 min from the closest town, but right on the U.S./Canada border, as well as next to 1000's acres of wilderness. We have literally encountered everything from moose to timber-wolves to Somali drug runners, as well as vehicles that come part way up the driveway in the middle of the night, but turn around and speed out as son as they see a flicker of light in a window.

I don't carry because I'm paranoid, I carry because it's prudent. The encounters we're likely to face at any given time can't wait for a 20 min response to a 911 call.

So far, we've been extremely lucky, as the only varmints we've had to shoot have been the four-legged variety. Most of the time, our tiny rural community in the sticks is a very friendly place, where everyone waves, enjoys life and helps each other out. I hope and pray that it stays that way. Meanwhile, I'll carry my very reliable, fires in any conditions revolvers for insurance.

My wife carries when she is bushhogging, because that is when she is most likley to see a coyote up close! It has happened several times while she was hogging and NOT carrying.

It's prudent to be armed. Taking out the trash one day, a huge Rottweiler came at me. I drew and fired, wounded him. Whole thing happened in an instant. Seems this dog's owner had many complaints about attacks, but he always claimed his dog was in the house. He called the police about his shot dog right after I called the shooting in, so the police ruled it a good shoot.
Another time, a guy went up behind a cop and pulled a gun. I drew and said something as I started to shoot. He took off running but didn't get caught.
There have been other 'events'. I can say it's more prudent to have it and not need it, than to need it and not have it.

I carry often... Between a 1911 45 and a ruger lcp...
If I'm on the tractor, I'm carrying always... If I'm outside the house I'm carrying or it is very close....

Our house is in the mountains and we've had everything from black bear to coyote to bobcat with tons of possums and coons...
Bear scares easy as long as there are no cubs involved....

Had a couple 2 legged visitors appear and decide to leave when they saw the "scary gun " on my side..... One said he was going to call the cops cause I was illegally carrying a gun.. Didn't draw or nothing.... It was funny when I called 911 and told them I had a trespasser that I was unsure of..... and that he was going to call you so I figured I'd call before he did... He stared at me and left.... Cops caught him as he got to the state Road.... The officer told me it was comical how he wanted me arrested for something that was 100% legal!!!!

I guess it takes all kinds!

that's almost as bad as the guys selling drugs that get some drugs stolen, and call the cops to report it!!

It's hard to believe, but such things actually do happen. I once had a guy get out of jail for DUI, went to the auto pound to retrieve his car, then came to me to complain that the police officers or the wrecker driver must have stolen the marijuana he had in the car. Of course, the officers and wrecker driver said the guy was so intoxicated that he didn't even know where he was at the time, so he must have already smoked all of it.

i believe ya. I've heard a bunch of stuff like that. I know a few LEO's.. and the stories they tell are out of this world. almost as good as the stories a friend of mine tells me.. he works in a hospital doing xray and mri.. occasionally he works emergency room shifts.. and they get some .. um.. weird foreign objects come in lodged in some uncomfortable places if you read me.

:)

simply amazing..
