Re: 3 point beast of a STUMPGRINDER checked off my "attachments to buy" list today

The green teeth as shown above are not what you want for your grinder. Those teeth are common on some other machines (rayco, vermeer and others) but not on the Sandvick wheels such as used by Woods. You will need teeth that are more rectangular in shape and designed specifically to fit the sandvik system. In my experience they will last much longer than the cupped style teeth.....but they do cost more.

Funny yours are broken. Somebody musta hit some rocks??

Good report on your grinder. WTG!!

Here are some pics I took throughout the day today. :)

Piston,

You REALLY got a good deal! My stump grinder cannot make PASTA!

I am so jealous!

Eats Stumps, and makes Lunch at the same time!!!

Re: 3 point beast of a STUMPGRINDER checked off my "attachments to buy" list today

Glad you got it working and that your tractor has no issues running it!

As far as pricing, I paid $6200 out the door for my SG100. I had a STG50 before that I paid $3500 for I believe. So yeah, that $2500 you paid was a steal! Mine did come with 3 spare teeth though.

I really need to get on the ball and try out mine, especially now with all the weeds coming up that are starting to hide the stumps. The reason I have been procrastinating is that most of my implements are jammed up in my shop while I complete the pole barn. Everything will be a lot easier to get to once they are in the pole barn. Too many projects going on all at once I suppose.

Re: 3 point beast of a STUMPGRINDER checked off my "attachments to buy" list today

I went ahead and cleared out the shop this morning and hooked up my grinder and took it for spin. Wow, that thing will chew through them stumps! I was running at 540E PTO and bogged down the engine grinding up 3-4 inches at a time. After lunch I'll get out the camcorder for some action footage at 540 PTO (not E) :D and update my thread.

Peter,
I take only about 2 inches off per swipe and have to go slow. I'm amazed at the chips it throws and the amount of chips it throws up! With the full 85hp of your pto I bet you can chew through some serious wood in no time! I'm glad you broke it in!
I ground down a cherry tree stump yesterday that was blown over in a storm. Love that smell!

Re: 3 point beast of a STUMPGRINDER checked off my "attachments to buy" list today

I posted a video in my thread of mine in action!:thumbsup:

My camcorder is HD and does .mts file, so after some goggling around, I discovered Handbrake, which I then used to convert to a .mp4 file, which is a format YouTube likes. I then had to create an account there and upload the file. At least now I know how to upload videos going forward! I still need to get some editing software.

Yeah, I love the smell too! :)

Okay I'm going to try the same thing, the quality isn't great since it's a cell phone video but I'll try embedding the video of my first time using the stumpgrinder. I'll have to get my good camera out sometime and take some better quality videos. That one you posted is great!

Here goes....

That is a nice stump grinder. Very cool  I just wish they weren't so spendy. We rented one last year and got rid of 18 stumps quick.

Haha, I'm just reviewing this thread and reread it to find the name of the company that was recommended for teeth. I didn't even realize before that I posted that pic of the pasta, for some reason I must have missed your post. I remember taking that pic too, that's pretty funny.

Peter, Any idea what equivalent HP your 540E PTO setting would be? I imagine maybe somewhere around 60hp or so???
It sounds like it worked out well even at the E setting and I'd like to get an idea of how much power is needed to really put this to the test!

Re: 3 point beast of a STUMPGRINDER checked off my "attachments to buy" list today

Hey Piston ... old thread, but I'm starting to shop for grinders again. I saw in another post that you thought the SC25 (or the woods TSG50) would be a more appropriate size for our sized tractors ... do you still feel that way? If I'm shopping new, and paying new prices, would I be better off spending say $4500 for the 24" wheel models, or $6000 for the bigger 34" models? $1500 (or whatever it works out to be) pays for another implement & plenty of spare teeth! If however it's worth jumping up in size, if I do it quasi-commercially (whatever jobs come up) IF our machines actually make use of that size.

OR --- do you think we'd be just as efficient with our (just under 50 HP) size using a smaller wheel?

Thanks.
