May I offer two suggestions please?

1) Loose the "asset manager" for uploading files, it is harder to use IMHO. If you turn it off then it's very simular to the old SW version.

2) For viewing pictures, can we use the newer VB4 viewer that pops open a window and lets you view all the attached photos to that post? Sorry, I cannot remember where or what this is called.

This way we can view all the pictures in one popup.

Whenever we implement any sort of photo popup, lots of people complain. I think the way it is now is best for TBN since it gives people more control over photo viewing. Most will just right click and view in a new tab while navigating through a thread.

I agree...I suspect pop-up blockers may inhibit viewing of attachments.

I bet Muhammad will think long and hard before he upgrades this site next time, for all the sleepless nights he has had in the last week or so
I remember back inthe late 80's and 90's when i ran a BBS pre internet.. it was usually a all day and night marathon getting the system back up with minimal function, and then pieceing it together over the next week. looks like not much has changed on that process over the decades..:)
Technology evolves; but the human component of new system rollout hasn't changed much since when I had to set each user's network address by jumpers on their network card.

Muhammad, we don't expect everything will be completed all at once.

And this would be TBB (TractorByBBS ) rather than TBN ;)

I definitely remember setting irq, address, dma channels via jumper on card.
Wow PTSD flashback. I had suppressed the awful memory of having to set those variables (as well as unique IP) on each user's NIC. Go under desk/open case/pull card/set jumpers/fail-to-boot/set-something-else/try again, and it seemed like everyone's PC in the whole office needed a different unique magic combination of settings before it would run. For the second generation of NICs we bought, we paid the $100 premium each to get DHCP-aware cards.

I expect Muhammad is facing similar, just with different variables to manipulate. Hopefully all on-screen and not inside the hardware.

I see that the default "Reply to thread" has gone to Quick Reply. I thought it was going to stay 'Advanced"? I'd swear it was Advanced yesterday? I prefer advanced as default.

I know it's a small issue but still an issue. I mainly use the iPhone app. The participated is still only showing the threads I started. I guess I could subscribe to all I've participated? I wasn't paying attention when I mentioned this earlier. I said it was some old and some new threads not realizing it was all threads I started. Thanks

Bump. Sorry

Thanks Steve.

I still prefer Advanced as default. I posted as much in the other thread. From the looks of it most like Quick, so I'm the odd man out... Again :)

HEY, I'm no longer able to view "My Home" from my Android tablet. I do not want to be forced into the TBN app. I have plenty of screen space on my tablet and have always viewed TBN through Firefox or Opera.

You may want to give the TBN app a try. It's great on my Apple iPad!

It was a great app before the upgrade. Since the upgrade the participated tab only shows threads I started instead all threads I participated in.

Also noticed the quick reply this mourn. Its a bit faster, and as long as you have all options i dont mind, although i like seeing all the smileies (spelling) at once. On the old Hearth.com you could quick reply or full reply, if you did quick and typed a message longer than the screen it would go on forever and before it word wrapped thus causing the screen to have to be side scrolled as you read. I hated that but they got it fixed in thier new upgrade a few months back.

AND the QUICK NAVIGATION drop down box at the end of threads IS STILL SCREWED UP!!!!!!!! I cant see anything as it dissappears behindthe text box for the thread. THIS IS EXTREMELY ANNOYING!

Muhammad, I tried to reply to a thread with the "Reply With Quote" button and was told the message was too short and needed 5 more character. The message was several paragraphs long. I added another sentence but still got the same message. I am on a Mac.

What browser is this on? I dont see that behavior in Firefox 13, Chrome 20 or IE 9.0.
Might try a forced refresh (Ctrl+F5 in Firefox) and see if there is an old file sticking in there.

check to make sure your message didn't fall within a set of quotes.. if it does.. the forum thinks it's aprt of the original quote.

I agree.. likely all done via soft settings now. hard to find any hardware selectable stuff much. heck.. with cable select / sata hdd's not evenmuch master slave stuff anymore. :)

I can remember when we transitioned from an arcnet to an ethernet.. and went to cards that were bnc only needing terminators.. and used some ipx/spx/netbios stuff.. half the machines would not come up.. or see the network.. take them into another progam that was network aware.. it would see the network.. exit out, and then try to login tot he network and then it would magically work. and then later inthe day someone would want to re-arange their desk and instead of poping the T off the back of their machine they's break the daisy chain or something.

then i remember when we went 10bt and the hubs. that was nice.. then oops.. 10 / 100 segments.. argh.. got to have a SWITCH.. ARGH..

fun stuff back in the early days of iron mongering....

I am using IE7. This is a work PC and they will not run the newer version at least till i get a new PC in the next months or so. We dont have Chrome or mozilla. Have restricted downloads (meaning nothing can be downloaded and saved) and they say the new IE has to many bugs to have implemented it?

Have made that mistake before, that being putting my reply within the original quote.

One thing I noticed and havent seen mentioned yet....

I dont like the default on the search function that automatically sorts by relevance. I like the old default that sorted by date. Maybe I am the only one???? But I think the new default will bring back old threads from years ago.

I also (and I dont know if others do) like to search my name on occasion. Because TBN is FAR to busy for me to catch every thread, I like searching my name to see if I come up if someone mentioned me in a thread. Like "ask so and so" or "so and so should be along shortly". There are several threads that I have missed where I was mentioned to be asked for advise, but I have found them by searching my name.

If there is a way to change "me" back to ADVANCED instead of quick reply I would be appreciative.
