The Northern Shenandoah Valley has almost normal rainfall and is doing well. The semi-arid area from Staunton to Lexington remains pretty dry, as usual. We get to watch storms sailing by to the north and south... Just not us. Climatologist said we were drier because of the mountain configuration to our west. Whatever.

But this is nothing like that 5 year drought we had that ended a few years ago. That was bad. Springs that had flowed continuously for 150 years dried up. Some never came back.

Of course, the silver lining to a drought is that my long gravel drive doesn't get ruts.

Dry here also, lawn is brown, corn is curling bad and no rain in sight with temps approaching 100 this week. Not looking good at this time.

Seen two trees fighting over a dog yesterday.

Someone else here from the Pacific NorthWET who'd love to send some of our rain your way if you need it!

Unlike many of my fellow residents who are underwhelmed with the lack of summer temps and weather here so far this year (and hey, let's be honest, MOST years), I feel blessed with every drop that falls and never complain. My brothers and I were expected to do our chores outside no matter how hard it was raining, so I guess it's good the habit was established early in my life. Our well also used to run dry many years before summer's end, making it necessary for us to shower at the Y and haul water from town out to the farm, so I have a THING about having enough water (rain barrel system, swimming pool, and upcoming pond) and feel very lucky that I live in such a rainy climate.

I did note that this week's Drought Monitor shows some improvement for several very dry areas I've been watching:

3.1 inches of rain since March 1st.

At least that much since Sunday AM. :(
Sorry, we really aren't trying to be piggish up here.
Send a tanker, I'll siphon enough out of my garden to fill it.
