Sorry for not seeing this thread earlier....... but the cover on the opposite end of the culprit spool looks like it could be corroded internally or a screw coming loose not allowing the valve to shift completely....I've seen this many times

It would give the wooshing sounds the OP is experiencing

No idea where you are looking?

it may not use piloted check valves.. i just mentione dit in case it does use pilots. if it does and a piolet is leaking pressureized oil, it can cause the check to release if it leaks as well.

The one marked 8 and 6 is the one not working correctly. All the others are working great...?.

So, would you simply pull off that cap on the troubled spool bottom and have a look? Will all kinds of springs etc...come spilling out?

It'll come out easy...two screws...(the one to the right will be a challenge for ya).....

you'll see a spring and washers and spacer......they'll all be intact on the end of the spool

before you take it apart test the valve stroke..compare it to the valve on the left...if it's the trouble then you'll see the valve spool doesn't go all the way in.....many times it's just rust inside preventing a full stroke on the spool not allowing the spool to shift all the way.....no need to remove the spool, you can get to the problem from the back

You can remove the rear cover from another one just to compare a good working one (just not the one on the right)

Do I just pull this entire assembly thru out the bottom? I'm afraid things will fall out inside...? Do I have to take the allen screws on the top around the spool where the linkage arms hook up in order to pull the entire spool thru?
It seems as if the spool works well and there is no binding. When re-inserting the cartridge where the hex nuts are; can it be done from the side or should I insert it from the bottom up so I don't dislodge the spring or the mushroom thing? I did it first from the side very carefully and it felt fine but now I'm wondering if it all went in properly.
Would you go ahead and still have it bench tested or do you think if the spool moves fine and I cleaned out the cartridges on the top and the bottom everything will be fine?
Not sure where else the whooshing would be coming from.

Just dropped it off at a hydraulic shop to be tested. I'll know more on Thursday...

Did you test the valve spool stroke before you took the spool cover off.....

was it clean inside the cover??

is the screw on the end tight??

Yes, everything looks great...? I'll see what the hydraulic shop says on Thursday. I'm hoping the issue was in the check valve assembly and that lack of movement in that mushroom shaped thing at the end of the hex nut I mentioned earlier was the issue. They are bench testing it and will let me know. I think if they find something I'm going to get a new valve circuit as it was probably defective from the factory. As I said the BH sat for the last two years in a tractor yard but was never used. No warranty but the seller will hopefully help me out if there is a more major issue.

Must of have been junk in the check valve as all tested fine. Put the valve back in and now all is working as it should. It digs well now with both functioning stabilizers. Going to work with it today digging out a mammoth pine stump. Thanks for all the help fellas!
