No windows in the garage?

Ron, some people like windows in the garage to let in light and to be able to see out without going out. Others don't want any windows that can let potential thieves see what you have in there. The new house we bought in 1977 had a row of windows in the overhead door; nearly everyone who has replaced a door used one with no windows. And where we live now, I can't think of a single place that has a window of any kind in a garage.

I have a couple fair sized windows in my garage, but the blinds are pulled on them almost all the time, but every now and then we open the screened windows to get a cross breeze through it. I like the natural light for most of the day even with the blinds closed.

There are two 3040 windows at the gable end of the garage. It wil be done in rock since it's big part of the "curb appeal" to the look of the house as well as the bedroom on the other end of the house.

Eddie's plan shows three windows in the front wall of the garage. In one of the pictures he posted, I can see window framing (headers) for two windows. That way the look will not be blank/stark on the front of the garage and more closely reflect the style of the main house. I suspect Eddie may use windows in the garage doors too. The one's in mine are really helpful. I have two windows along the side of my garage too. I really like the style of the house with no garage doors along the front. With the garage doors on the side toward Eddie's garage, they share a common entrance driveway.

Thanks Jim. That is pretty much exactly what the plan is. I don't want to see garage doors when looking at the front of the house, and we can share the driveway. This has created a huge parking area and more room to manuver. The house location was planned when I built my house, it just took this long to sell their house in CA. The sewer, water and electric lines where already there for easy connections, as was the driveway.
The original floor plan had three windows, but when framing it up, that seemed like too much, so we changed it to two windows instead, which I think will look a lot better. The same thing happened with the living room. There are four windows in the drawing, but we went with three instead. The front door will have side lights and a transom light over the door, so there is already so much going on that four windows was just too much. It's all about what feels right and has the best "look" while we're building it.

I have a detached garage that has a bunch of tall windows on two walls, designed by the previous owner. Makes it a real pain to hang or put anything in front of those walls In the future my preference would be just enough windows to let in a little light and maybe place them up high so you can still put cabinets, shelves, whatever along those walls.

I think there is a realistic shot that I have more windows in my garage than any of you. A friend who was helping me with the design also wanted to get rid of some window frames he had in his barn. He thought that natural light would be soooooo great and would make the garage such a great place to work. Well...most times I just wish I could hang something there instead. And...technically I still could...just go ahead and block the windows with hanging things. For some reason...it is hard for me to convince myself to block a window.
It's still a great garage...but there are 7 windows in the car parking area, and two more in the shop area. I must have been out of my mind.
