Sleep habits, mine are a disaster. How 'bout you?

Sounds like a bunch of you guys sleep worse than I do, and that's pretty bad. Only occasionally do I sleep more than 2 hours at a time. Usually, I wake up, look at the clock, turn over, and eventually go back to sleep a half dozen times a night. But it does vary. Most nights, I get bored with TV and go to sleep in my recliner between 7 and 9 p.m., wake up and go to bed between 10:30 and midnight, then doze off and on and keep looking at the clock until around 5 to 5:30 a.m. when I go ahead and get up.

Last night was unusual, though. I went to sleep in my recliner about 8:30 p.m. and slept pretty good until our danged little chihuahua woke me barking at 1:30 a.m. I got up, let her out, let her back in after less than 10 minutes, then went to bed, but didn't go to sleep for more than an hour. But when I did go sleep, I slept until that danged little dog went to barking again at 6 a.m.

Sounds like a sleep problem to me Bird. You shouldn't have to wake up every couple of hours. As for the dog next time it wakes you up leave it out for a few hours by itself and that will teach em a lesson.

The little dog only barks when someone or something is out there, or at least she thinks there's something out there. I'm afraid the problem is a stray cat that comes onto our patio at night. So I've got to set a trap again and see if I can get it.

I was having occasional problems sleeping, the doc gave me a script for Ambien, works great. Take the pill, get in bed, 20 minutes later, lights out. Wake up 8 or 9 hours later.

Sleep is critical to good health and a healthy immune system.
Sounds like you sleep very soundly when you do sleep. I can tell you that your sleep habits are not like mine and I would not consider them normal.
Seems to me it concerns you or would not have started this thread, so consult an expert, not necessarily your doctor.
If I were you I would not take melatonin unless it's prescribed, as it may complicate things. It's not miracle drug, just a hormone.

Try 2 colt 1911's loaded, one on each nightstand or on the head board. That and three dogs.....works for me....

I've never taken Ambien and it's been many years since I took any kind of sleeping pill, but when I did take one, it let me sleep alright, but then I got up feeling just as tired as when I went to bed. I decided that the side effects were worse than losing sleep. But obviously, such things work for some.

Get youself a trail cam to see whats going on out there at night. It never sleeps and will take some nice infra red b&w pics so you know for sure if the dog is psychotic and has sleep problems that also need to be traeted or you have to buy him a good dog bone because he actually did a great job as a watchdog!

I've been thinking about this and back on my own experience and I remember that we sleep in "stages" and that sleep apnea doesn't happen until we fall into the deeper sleep that is maybe 45 minutes to two hours into the event. If someone only sleeps in short shifts but doesn't hink they have sleep apnea it might be worth a second look. That's what happened to me.

In sleep apnea you just stop breathing and it is that event that usually startles the sleeper back to life. It's a notch away from death and murder on your heart. I'm no Florence Nightengale but if you are sleeping funny and have long range plans to keep reading the TBN, maybe check with an MD on a sleep apnea study with an at-home remote recording event. Just my personal opinion here.

Knowing what I know now, after using the CPAP for nearly 10 years, I've probably had sleep apnea for many years! I don't remember dreaming since I was a kid (dreams are during the deep "REM" sleep), often woke up with headaches, tired all the time, up multiple times at night, all possible symptoms of sleep apnea! ~~ grnspot

I will discuss with my Dr. NOTE: I do go to the Dr every 90 days as I have had high blood pressure for about a million years. I take meds for it and have thorough heart tests about every 3 years. So far they describe my heart as "real pretty".

I started the thread more as a joke about how I make such a mess of the sheets. Last night I put new sheets on and even re-set the mattress protector and about 5 am they were all off again.

More info for the group. I have a job that make my dinner times very late. Never eat before 8pm, and I think that aggravates my sleeping. I also drink a huge amount of water each evening so I have to get up and, you know, every night.

I will take the advice though and talk to the Dr.

It's interesting now that the health aspect has been dragged up. I had a job I hated for years and years. I quit it about 2 years ago. Before I quit, I had to go onto high blood pressure meds and also SSRI's for chronic depression and panic attacks. It was like "mini bipolar".

In the short time I've been away from that job, I have been able to (with Dr supervision) completely get off the SSRI's with NO RESIDUAL problems and I think I'll be off the blood pressure pills soon. My last test was a BP of 100 over 75 so we stopped the meds and I then tested after 3 months at 120 over 80.

Stress is the devil!
