Grand L40 or L60

The three uses for my 4240 are clearing snow in the winter, maintaining the drive in the summer, and logging. I didn't get a cab model because I didn't want to turn my trails into highways. The 4240 gets around in the woods fine. If you do a fair bit of timber work I would look into a logging winch in the future.

I recently went through a purchase decision for a Grand L in this size range. I did go with the 3540 as comes in at 59.8" in width with R1 tires so I can use 60" implements and cover my tracks. Stepping up to the 3940, or even the 4240, was tempting for the extra HP and a 4 cylinder engine, but that frame comes in at 66.5" width with R1 tires which means getting 72" implements typically.

I didn't get a cab or hoe so I don't have the extra weight to carry around, i was picking R1 tires and I already had a number of 60" implements (tiller, discs, bush-hog). Each situation is different but I would definitely go for the higher HP for the frame size you pick - ie. the 3540 or the 4240.

Excuse the stupid question, but any ideas when the change over to L60's from L40's will be completed? I planned on getting an L40 this coming summer, but I guess it may be a L60 instead.

I think you'll be able to find a GL40 for a few months but I wouldn't wait too long. I would also be checking into the price difference and the differences (not just the tier 4 engine) between the two. It sounds like there's not that much of a difference but the jump in price could be big. If so I would really try to get my hands on a GL40 before they are gone.

So I called around to most of my local dealers and none have a L3540, all have a couple L3240s. If I wanted to bring in a L3540 or it would be about $1200 more (before negotiations), if they can find one.
Am I going to hate myself later for getting the 3240? The tractor will be HST+. Honestly the push now has me pretty strapped and I won't be getting the hoe till later at this rate.

Like I said above, I'd like to do business locally, but I'm not against driving I just have to take that into account into the cost of the tractor.

Thanks for the help folks.

I believe both Messicks and Barlow deliver, have you considered them?

I have not, I can't imagine delivery or the fuel for me to get them would offset any cost savings.

Edit: Just left a message for Messicks. We'll see, but I hate to waste anyone's time.

Just a thought as several members from many locations have reported lower costs than available locally and they deliver.

A bit late here but my first tractor was the L3230. It was fine for the most part but definitely lacking hp for some applications. I upgraded to the L 5030 and was a great. However, judging on the difference between the 2, I don't think the 3 or 4 hp diference from 31 to 35 will be that noticeable. I would go up to the 39.
