Why I like a winch

When I bought my Polaris Sportsman I also purchased a Warn 2.5 CI winch with it. I don't use the winch that often. My wife was mowing tonight and decided to take a shortcut over the horse manure pile with the lawn tractor. She sunk it to the axles in wet horse poop. This is a 1300 pound Gravely 16-G lawn tractor. I ran out there with the Sportsman and hooked the winch to the mower. The winch pulled the mower out like it was nothing. This is a 770 pound ATV pulling a 1300 pound mower that is stuck to the axles and high centered on the mowing deck. It's nice to have a winch when you need one.

I agree. We have a small winch on our EZ-Go golf cart. I have got stuck, at least 4 times, and have used the winch to pull myself free, with the aid of a tree. BTW, the golf cart has 8-6volt batteries, but I carry a car battery in the storage compartment, just in case.

Totally agree......I have a similar winch on my Artic Cat. That winch has pulled out mowers for me and the neighbor, pulled out several elk and deer over the years and has been used to pull down branches and trees out into the woods. It's also helped to get me out of a few tough situations while out riding the 4 wheeler. Great to have.....wouldn't be without my winch!!:thumbsup:

Just in case what? You can't mix 12Volt car batteries with 6 volt anything!:confused2:

I'm sure the winch is 12V and is wired across two of the 6 volt batteries in series. The 12V would be for back up use of the winch.

I have only used my winch a few times but it is good to know it's there. OTOH, with the winch, I go places that I wouldn't chance otherwise!

Unfortunately I've heard enough stories of where they plastic gear train didn't hold up that I'm nervous about using it for any serious work.
