I like the pto string trimmer idea. If you could find one of the old DR trimmers, I think it would be easy to convert. No need to worry about oil or gas obeying the laws of gravity.

But everyone be careful mowing around ponds. One of my wife's best friends lost her husband that way. The tractor rolled over into the pond and he drowned. If it feels too steep, it probably is.

This one would likely just make me mad every time I had to get off and start it back up.

My biggest problem was water primrose out in the pod where a mower would not help so I built a big rake.

I don't mind, I got the idea here. If you do a search for pond rake you can find one built out of 2x4's and rebar. The one I built was boiler pipe and 3/4" cold rolled.

I will say the extra bracing was done after it failed.

Once it was dropped to the bottom and pulled out, on the first run, all looked well until the weeds looped over the rake and added too much weight and bent it.

Trussed up it will hold the weight but the desk top welded across the rake to keep the weeds from being able to loop over was the fix and it likely would have worked just fine IF we put it on to start with.

I have mowed around water with a push mower, you hit the water, it quits.

I bought a pull-type sickle bar mower because some of my slope is right on the edge of my pucker factor. I cannot tell you how glad i am that I bought it. I just used it today and came in and told my wife again how I should have bought it twenty years ago.

Foe the photos you showed you would be very happy with one.

I mowed my pond edge today so I had my wife take some video. Yes it is this easy. The first one shows the tractor on a slope with cutter bar extending straight out. The second show the tractor and mower on the level but the cutter bar angled down.
This is New Holland 455 mower.

Yep, sickle bar cutter the way to go. Creamer, you are spoiled having yours on its own caddy. :)

Now that 455 works pretty slick! It's about $1000 (used) more than I want to spend on this project though ;)
