Just gets old. Ford would have taken the same deal if they hadn't already borrowed billions in bank loans.
Possibly, but the point is, Ford had the forethought to actually see that they were in horrible shape, mortgage the company (even the Blue Oval as the story goes), and do things the hard way! GM took handouts to prop them up, and will never pay back many billions of the money that was given to them. Does that not give them a competitive advantage? Sure it does, but Ford is still doing better (financially, and by building better cars), even without that free money. The talk of GM taking the bailout will not stop until GM actually pays back the money that they still owe me (and you, and your neighbor...). The fact that GM is making profits and not paying that money back is a sticking point for many hard-working Americans.
And don't start in about the loans that Ford took. Yes, Ford took loans from the govt to build fuel efficient vehicles. LOANS! You know, those things when you borrow money, then actually pay it back with interest!
