I'm not sure I'd be so quick to prop up GM as one who treats their customers all that great. I have owned several GM trucks and bought my mother an '08 Malibu and while they have given decent service at times, they have also been a huge pain in the rear to deal with when it comes to warranty work. Case in point, the fuel sensor in the gas tank of my mom's Malibu failed. Took it in and got it fixed. 3 months later same thing. This time they hemmed and hawed about "she must be putting in bad gas, we're going to have to investigate". Um no you just build your cars with cheap Chinese crap parts and THAT'S why it failed twice. They had to send some rep to review the case and finally decide to warranty it. In other words they went around their elbow to get to their head and wasted time trying to get out of fixing the problem. Yeah, let's blame the 65 year old woman for our cheap parts. Her radio failed at 49,000 miles and they wouldn't warranty that because the 3/36,000 was up. Fine, but don't expect me to ever trust your junk electronics anymore if your radio only last for 49,000 miles. Did I mention the interior lights began to burn out one by one in the same 49,000 mile time frame? I got sick of that car and told her I was going to buy her something else, just go pick out what you want and I'll write the check as long as it wasn't a GM. She chose a Camry. I won't even get into the horror stories of what GM put friends of mine through with stuff failing like ball joints, dashboard gauges completely failing, etc. No auto manufacturer is perfect, but I will say that Toyota did step up with their frame buy back program on the 1st gen Tacomas and offered owners 150% of Kelly Blue Book value or warranty their replaced frame for 10 years while giving the customer a loaner vehicle. You also had to pull teeth to get GM to loan you a vehicle while yours was being worked on, but Toyota has offered me a vehicle to drive everytime I've taken mine in for service. Ford even did that to my mother when she owned 3 Crown Victorias. I'm just glad my mother drives a car that I know is going to be stone reliable and is with a company that will make it right if she ever needs it. GM might have made out like a bandit with our tax dollars, but they didn't get a dime from me willingly when it came time to buy myself a new truck or my mom a new car. They weren't even in consideration.
