Also any opinions on buying now or waiting for the new MX5200 with the new emission stuff? Should I be concerned about buying now?

My Kioti DK-40 is about .8 gal per hour at PTO speed.

That's sounds low. The only #s I had seen was Branson 1.7 on a 3510HST and 2.1 on a 4020R. I haven't found #s on Kubota's web site.

Buy Now! I would not want the new emission crap myself.

That's kind of my thinking. Less stuff to mess up. I was only thinking maybe less smoke, although I haven't seen any smoke on any new tractors Ive looked at.

Yes, the newer tractors don't smoke, or smoke Very little. They already are very clean running!

I'll likely be looking for a low hour used MX5100 sometime in the next two years.

Agreed! The new emissions stuff will probably rob a little power too, while costing you more money. Get tier 3 (or tier 4 interim) if you can.

As for fuel consumption, stepping up to a 4cyl from a 3cyl will burn more fuel. No way around it. The mx5100 is turbocharged tho, so maybe that'll help.

Thanks everyone, different line of thought. What kind of fuel consumption can I expect out of a tractor this size? I was looking at smaller tractors before and was seeing 1.5-2 gal an hour. Is this good? I assume the MX5100 would be more but how much? Anybody know?

Fuel consumption varies depending on what you're doing. When doing work with the rear blade I use about 1 gallon per hour. Splitting wood I run around 1300 to 1500 rpm and it seems slightly less. Backhoe at 2000-2500 rpm is at least 1.5 gal/hour. At idle its a lot less than a gallon per hour. For 8 hours work, I like to have 10 gallons available. ("Your mileage may vary.")

Also I should mention that my unit is HST, and I pay a lot of attention to the throttle. I drop down to idle whenever possible, even if just for a few seconds.

I traded in a perfectly good L5030 HSTC last year with only 1400 hours for an L5740HSTC to avoid the new L60 Series. I like cleaner air, but not the cost and other changes.
