What bags are you using? Where do you get them?

I did a search to be able to give you the link and discovered they no longer seem to sell them in Canada, seems to be the UK only now. I contacted the company and asked if I can still buy them, I haven't heard back yet. I see what you mean, other options I've seen seem a lot more spendy.

For what it's worth, here's the link:BAG Supplies Ltd :: Packaging Suppliers covering the UK and Europe

Here's what I use. I built a frame that holds the bag open around a pallet and the wood goes straight from the splitter to the bag. It has reduced the number of times I have to handle each piece of wood by about 4. I have another pallet with large caster wheeles on my deck so I can place a pallet of wood on it and roll it up tight to the house. Each bag has almost one face cord and weights about 2000 with wet hard wood. I've been able to reuse about 75% of them and they cost about $2 each. I'm now converting my wood shed to storage, I'll never handle wood any other way.

How much of a cord do your bags hold?

Almost exactly one face cord or 1/3 of a cord.

I can get 1/4 cord on a 42''x48'' pallet. 1/3 of a cord green would be more than what I could lift on the BX.

Are you saying you can move 1/4 of a cord with your BX2360? Your L4240 is comparable to my DK45 so I know it could handle the 1/3 cord bags that I'm using, but it's getting pretty close to the lifting limits. Even with my 74" blower on the back (about 1500lbs) and loaded tires, my tractor feels a little light in the back trying to move them.

Look at post 27. I am lifting a pallet with the BX, that one should have had a few more peices on it. I think they are right around a 1/4 cord.

I like the looks of your baskets. Do you happen to have a source and ballpark cost on these?

I got then through craigslist. i paid $75 each and got everything they had (4). grainger.com sells them and if there is a local store you dont have to pay for shipping. Or search google for wire shipping baskets.

I'm limited in barn space so going up was better than going out and this was the best option for me.

Edit.. I purchased several through granger and they are roughly $115 each.

Ahh, on the 3pt, I missed that the first time. I know from trying to lift a pallet full of firewood with my CK30 that a BX just wouldn't have enough lift on the FEL to do it. It would have been about the same as the Bobcat you had and just isn't strong enough to do it. I have to ask why you'd use the BX when it would be so much easier (and warmer!) to use the FEL on the L4240?

OK, I just tracked down my supplier through an old email and gave him a call. He just sold the UK part of the company and the .com website, so he now uses the same website with .ca. Anyway, he's still operating in Canada and says he ships to the States all the time. I ordered 50 more bags from him. I was wrong, the bags are $3.50 each and that's apparently what I paid the last time. They come in bundles of 100 but he will seperate them. They also have the heavier duty bags with loops to hang from forks, they're $9 something each and come in bundles of 50. Very nice guy, incredibly fast service the last time I ordered from him.

My wood shed(s) keep getting added to... I can now hold around 13 full cords. I also separate the hardwood from the softwood. You can note on the new section, to right of top of ladder, a difference in colour (on the cedar shakes)compared to the left side of the ladder. I have been, over the years, experimenting with an oil(recycled) recipe that I spray on the buildings. The two buildings in the background plus the older section of the wood shed have been treated with this oil. The building with the chimney has to have another application on the cedar roof soon. I use used deep fryer oil(2/3) plus some kerosene(1/3) as a thinner. I strain the fryer oil to remove debris, add the kero, mix and strain again before putting in a pump sprayer. I spray on windless and slightly warm days. And there is no smell from this formula.

The oil darkens down the wood - see clapboard on farthest building - while preserving it. Years ago, up here, you could get red fish oil from the local fish plants - this was a by-product for them but all of the locals used it to "paint" their buildings. They also used the fish oil as a base and added pigments(powder) from the local co-op stores to add colour. I am basically trying to duplicate this process. The building with the green roof needs to be re-shingled next spring- this will be a change to change over to cedar shakes.

PS: bricks are from a very old building - hand made. Anyone in NS who has a historic reno and needs some I can give you a good price on them... approximately 1000.
