Not sure of your location in SE MI, but I bought a Pacific Energy stove (T5) from a stove dealer in Toledo, OH. It was about $1500. If you go with the steel plate version without the cast iron dress-up parts, it is less. Pacific Energy is a Canadian company, where they have "real" winters and toothpick pine trees. I have been very satisfied with mine, it easily heats our 1300sq ft floor plan home (I mean it holds the indoor temp at 76+ for my reptilian wife....

Be very careful with Vermont Castings and Harman. Woodstock sell direct from the factory and they are beautiful stoves and work very well, but are not cheap.. Blaze King are very good catalytic stoves for the coldest parts of the US where there is only pine for fuel. Not made for looks, but very long burn times and high efficiency.

I have yet to use 4 cord of firewood in a winter, so my fuel bill is somewhere between $450 and $500/season. I have been paying $150/cord split delivered.

Outdoor wood stove. ! ???? Not cheap but it could be connected to new house at a later date super easy

If I said outdoor I misspoke. I was talking a wood stove to go in the house that could later be moved to the new house.

I am only about an hour from Toledo. I think I looked at some info on pacific energy and if I remember correctly the units that would be big enough to heat 2400 sq ft were not mobile home rated. I will check though.

There is a unit sold by Home Depot, U.S. Stove maybe? That will heat 2400 sq ft and is mobile home rated. I may check that out, but at this point in the year I may just see how the intertherm unit that is in there works.

I would give the one you have a try. Any time you can wait to spend money, it is a good thing. And you can get what you want to go in the house then.

That's the plan I am going to go with. It also allows me time for more research. No point in getting a stove approved for mobile homes if that isn't what I want long term. Thanks.

Thank you for finding that for me. I will check it out. One thing the insurance agent said was that they will insure it if it is professionally installed. No do it your selfers allowed.

I liked the idea of the outdoor boiler if you have your own wood supply into the future and can/would supply power from a generator during outages.

For use in your current home, it may not be the most efficient because you would need to transfer heat from water to air through a heat exchanger to tie into the heating system which I assume is forced air.

Other than that, one outdoor boiler unit can heat several buildings: house, garage, work shop, greenhouse, etc. You could continue to tie into it over time as your homestead develops.

It's something you have time to think about if you are going to use the current unit this year anyways and not buy a stove. Some people have their boiler and wood supply together in an enclosed or mostly enclosed shed. The generator could live there too. I think that would be very handy.
