I also have more respect for Fred than I did earlier. But the 'other problems' with the tractor need to be addressed before modifying, IMO...

Yep, I would use the warranty if I had a problem.

But past that I do my own work and will modify something if I feel like it.

Thru this thread I've developed respect for Fred. Before this thread I thought he was just suffering from severe buyer's remorse. Now I think his expectations and standards are a bit higher than most of us. His disappointment in this tractor comes primarily from Kubota's weight/HP ratio inadequacies. Then put Fred's standards on top of that and you have a conflict of interest.

So now Fred is doing what he knows best. He's going to attempt to overcome this ratio problem. When he gets this tractor turbo'd this ratio will change dramatically. Most of the things he dislikes about the tractor will go away. But the tractor's basic personality will still be there, slightly hidden, but still there.

I worry that Fred still will not be happy with it. Nothing wrong with the tractor. Nothing wrong with Fred. Just a lack of compatability between the two. Many Men/Women suffer the same incompatability.

Great thread though. I'm now firmly in the "Fred's Cheerleading" group. I'm anxious to see the results. GO FRED!!!

All well and good Richard, but I believe his continued reference to the tractor as a "gutless wonder" and other derogatory remarks certainly don't help. "If" the turbo is the only problem and I am not totally convinced it is and the turbo fixes everything, all it proves is he bought the wrong tractor for his needs. Don't blame the tractor because you bought the wrong one, admit you under bought then outline what you are doing to improve performance, many of us like to see the modifications on these machines.

My BX2660 isn't a gutless wonder because I often have to use the L5740HSTC, my L5740 isn't a gutless wonder because I have to park it and get the M8540HDC out.

No doubt The Fred knows way, way more about mechanics than most of us and my hat's off to anyone with those skills, but I'm from a family of mechanics and seen enough blown engines, transmissions etc. to know sometimes even experts can wander down the wrong road.

It is just hard for many of us who have owned similar sized machines and many TBN members have reported satisfaction with these to accept the designation of "gutless wonder".

Yeah he did but where guys,gotta go out swinging,instead rolling over and face the I made a mistake music.J/K. I bought a 5040 great,stout tractor but I needed another cab,so I jumped up to the 7040,because it probably wouldn't have been the great tractor it was with cab. Anyways its neat job adding the turbo and I'm along for the ride. My brother is a diesel mechanic and I usually help him on different things,I don't know **** about it but cool just helping.
