Called around the day before Christmas to see if I could still find a 60 series BX, new or "like new" left on the lots. It was a long shot. Finally found a BX1860 at a dealer about 100 miles away. It had about 60 hours on it. Drove up there first thing this morning and it had sold on Saturday, as well as the second and third choice, higher hour units that were my "fall backs". Gone. They'd sold 13 tractors on the three days following Christmas. Owner said these days around the holidays are some of the busiest of the year. Go figure.

Of course, we kicked the tires on a couple of 70 series BX's but the prices didn't move me to desperation.

As we sat and talked produce farming, (his wife is just getting started and both he and she are dead serious about being successful), he got a return phone call from another of his lots. They had BX2360 for my consideration. 23 hours on the meter. Short story, I bought it, sight unseen, quite frankly, but the guys over at the other store will pull it in and check it all out, just to be sure. Good people. Straight-forward and painless deal.

I'll take a truck and trailer and pick it up myself after the New's Year holiday. Photo's will attend. Of course, if you've seen one BX, you've seen them all. :)

I'm glad that you found what you were looking for. As for me, I'd "never " go back to the BX for reasons that I won't mention here. My B2620 fits my needs and knees to my satisfaction. Now the question is just how much garden to put in. Last year was a bumper crop of everything to the point of disinterest. Cheers, Mike

Hey Mike, I understand.

The owner and I talked at great length about the plastic row for weed suppression and he described his drip irrigation system. Pretty cool, I think. He's using 330 gal plastic tanks, putting three tanks on an old hay wagon and is very, very pleased with some of these systems. This will be their third year in commercial growing. We talked a lot about high tunnel systems and since he's got a bit more horsepower ($) and his wife has a lot of drive, they'll probably be pushing farther and faster than I. It was good farmer conversation.

When I talked about using the BX inside the high tunnel, his eyes lit up a bit. I may have planted even more thoughts. :)

When we go to pick up the tractor on Friday, I also intend to buy some filters, sudt-2 and antifreeze and just dump all the fluids for a fresh start. Radiator, front axle, engine and transmission. The build date is a few years ago, in spite of having no hours on it. It's been run too little and sat far too much. This just makes sense to me.

January temperatures here are brutal cold. I do have an insulated shop building and I'll just run the little propane heater long enough to get the temps up to 45-50 degrees, just so I can get the maintenance done. Who in their right mind buys a tractor in the deepest, dead of winter?

Congrats on your quick find.
I like the 23HP BXs. The motors "seem" to rev smoother and faster and with less vibration that the others I've owned and always "seemed" to have the HP to do the jobs I needed done. Now picking up a rock that was to large was a bit of an issue but not because of HP but because of weight which is the never ending "issue" with tractors and tractor selection.
You know from actual hands on experience your history of use and your needs and can make a comfortable/secure decision, until/unless your needs change again and at that time you can change again or not.
Bigger isn't always better and the one you/me has isn't always the best available model if/when our needs change. Change happens to all/most of us and being flexible is a good thing.
Some people believe changing to a different tractor is an admission of making an error and it can be but isn't necessarily so. I've changed a few times and some times I quickly decided I'd made a mistake and fairly quickly changed again and some times I've changed because my needs changed and some times I just wanted to try a different one. :D
We may see this thread updated a few years from now.:) I've had a few "smart alecks":D Bring back an old thread or two or three where I declared I'd made my final trade with Barlows and had obtained the final Kubota. I never say that any more. :)

I'd also give serious consideration to doing the changes in the same circumstances. Sure you know how to do it your self. For sure would the motor oil and filter plus hyd filter and antifreeze isn't that expensive.

BP, I hope you got a FEL with that new BX. That's one of best parts of the BX and you already have some of the useful attachments.

Happy new tractor year! to you and all.

Mike

BP,
Congrats on the BX1860! I have a 2011 that has been an excellent machine. I am currently waiting for Barlows to deliver a BX2670. I plan to trade the 1860 on it. I was hoping to find either a 2660 or 2360 and trade for that, but I waited too long. However I do like the new 2670 and the folding ROPS will definitely be an advantage.

Be glad when Marvin is able to get here with it.
Happy New Year All!
