how about a boat fuel tank ? you can get a portable 6 gallon or permanent mount in larger sizes
I have a tracker like this myself, I put a set of 235 75 15's on it with snow chains on all four wheels. goes really well even with open diffs.
I cut a furnace oil tank open and unrolled it and welded it to the bottom of the frame from the front bumper right back to just ahead of the rear axle.
Best skid plate ever, the bottom is totally smooth and will slide over anything with a few trys.
This lasted 3 yrs of me and my buddies hammering on it in the bush. Its parked now because of a fuel leak and I suspect a sending unit problem as the tank is well smashed in.
Anybody got any ideas for a Cheap fuel cell or tank setup I can put in the back?

Cheap fuel cells are scarce. The older 20 LB propane tanks hold about 5 gallons each, squeeze in as many as you can fit. Beer kegs are excellent, I found recently they aren't easy to come by as there is not only a deposit on them, they keep records of who has them. Purge gas is a little tricky, but easy to weld with MIG or TIG. I wanted a bullet proof tank for my Dodge 1956 Power Wagon, stock wouldn't work because of PTO rear winch. Square tube with ends welded in 1/4" wall has served me well for 25 years. A speaker magnet on a wire is a must with fabricated steel tanks.

Or you could start with a old Jeep FC150 Forward Control pickup truck, it is already a cabover! :thumbsup:

Same 90" wheelbase as the early Jeep CJ's. This one is a 1962.

And the REALLY rare Forward Control Jeep- the van. I've only seen one.

The pickup was produced in short (FC150) and long (FC170) wheelbase. The first FC150's had the CJ narrow track axles. Later ones had normal width.

That is really cool, I didn't know of these. I want to know more. On a more practical note. I had for 12 years a GMC 8600 lb van with Quigley 4X4 conversion. Sold it and ordered a 2013. They are not sports cars, but by a wide margin the most versatile vehicle ever.

Didn't get much done over the holidays... but started back up on it.

Finished the driver's side sill and floor patches... just seam sealed... paint tonight.

Started on the back... before;

after all the bad stuff cut out;

I found the gas tank leak! Just need to pick up a tube of Goop and patch that up... and I think I have the factory body mounts from the Jeep that I can use to replace the ones I cut out (they weren't touching the body anymore LOL)

Once I recoup from the holiday bills I think I'll pull the trigger on a 2" lift. The front tires bind pretty hard on the inner fenders so I'm limited to about 2/3 steering. I have been having fun whiping doughnuts on the cul-de-sac when it's snow covered (I'll try to get some vid), and driving the garbage to the rd as you can see in the pics. LOL

Good project! :thumbsup:

Thanks! Spiker that's kind of a weird one. First; why would someone butcher such a new looking vehicle? 2nd, their's no way that would be street legal where I am.

On that token I forgot to mention; I registered it offroad only the other day. Same as a fourwheeler.
