Weapon laws

Relatively strict for the US here in MA (US is regulated mostly at the state level). You must take a safety course (which IMHO is a bit of a joke as it teaches very little), then apply for a license from your local police chief, which includes finger prints and background checks and then you get the license. The license can range from a right to own a gun (but not carry it) to a concealed carry permit. Purchases have to be made from licensed dealers in the state and firearms are registered at time of purchase and must be stored in special ways in your house or vehicle. Unfortunately the laws are very murky in some areas and enforced differently from town to town.

Here again, it is your state and if the people agree so be it -I am all about states rights. However this would never (we hope) happen in Texas.

I only know one person that has a permit to carry... every year he must attend and pass a day long course given by the Sheriff's Department and have a liability policy and clear background.

A few times the newspaper has printed the names and address of each permit holder as public information... it was a very short list.

You asked, if you the people of Norway like these kinds of socialist government restrictions to freedom in your country so be it, it is your country. I hope to think there would be a massive revolt before anything close to that happens in the USA. There is no need for such restrictions and I consider those a ridiculous infringement on basic individual rights.

I'll bet the bad guys in Norway follow those rules.....not.

And there you have one of the big problems. The Norwegian police are not allowed to carry their service weapons in normal service, so they have to call for armed support from the station if they get in trouble. Fortunately, it is not often they need it.

I just renewed my Carry Concealed Weapon permit and it is good for 5 years, They just wanted the money. Of course we have about 160,184 CCW holders. and they do not publish our names.
