Ram1500 EcoDiesel V6 revealed!

I was just reading about fords new redesign of the F150 using a lot of beer cans. They hope the decrease of 700 lb's will improve mileage, but they really want to add that 700# to the advertised payload #'s. I was reading that basic repairs will be costly and require specially trained shops.

The issue I see with that is that I feel 11,300 lbs is to much for a light half ton already. I hope they don't try and raise the tow numbers. I don't think they should raise payload either a half ton just isn't robust enough for the weights ford is going for. I can see it now ford says the F150 can haul 4,000 lbs in the bed. Then comes the massive failures like the tire and suspension debacle of the explorer. Leave the half tons in the payload range the current F150 is in now and keep the tow rating at 10,000 lbs no more no less. If you need more capability buy a 3/4 or 1 ton. It's just safer that way.

I totally agree on the 3/4 or 1 ton purchase for those concerned with frequent towing and payloads. That's why they exist.

That tells me all I need to know about your post. It's not worth reading the rest.

High strength Al alloy != beer cans.

I know you read the rest anyway.

Everyone uses aluminum that contains recycled content. It's only a shock statement for the uninformed.;)

Well, I backtrack on that statement a bit. I would say 3-4 years ago, they all did it (all of the half tons). However, now Ford does have the payload to support it after the updates for '13+. I haven't looked at the Titan and Tundra lately.

I'm talking 3-4 years ago. All 3 of our trucks have the payload to support 4 in the cab and 10% of the tongue weight of the max tow rating. Ford's and Nissan's.

These new half ton Ford's are not what you had in the 90's. They are more truck in every area then the 90's and early 2000 ' s gas 3/4 tons.

It's not the 80's, 90's, or even 2000's. Forget everything you think you know about 1/2 tons and start over.
