Missing 777

About that.....
I suggest you and others read this:
http://www.davi.ws/avionics/TheAvionicsHandbook_Cap_11.pdf
and see if you can find anywhere that there is a mechanical linkage between the pilot and the control surfaces on a 777.
Yes a good paper on the FBW. A full direct mechanical link... no. Triple redundant system with minimum separation requirements and hydraulic actuators yes. Hydraulics drive the system. As I understand it, on the 787 the hydraulics have been replaced with batteries so it becomes more of a complete electrical system. Now let's get back to finding that airplane.

I am in no way questioning you, but it's just hard to believe that any human would have the strength to mechanically control any flight controls on a plane that large. Is there at least some kind of assist? And if so, what powers it? Some sort of electric-hydraulic power source?

I thought it would be common knowledge that the 777 was Boeing's first fly by wire passenger jet?

There was aircraft debris at the Pentagon . The lightweight stuff breaks into bits. The engines and landing gear were deep in the buildings.
As for cell phones still active and ringing? Are you kidding or do you have no idea how cell phone systems work. You hear rings until the cells systems can't find the phone around the world, then direct to voice mail.
Anyways a cell phone jammed from eBay is easy enough to come across.
The AWACS is nuts too. Civilian radar lost the signal first because they have less power, higher frequency , lower powered electronic processing and less sensitive receivers . Of course military radar will detect the reflection signal from a weaker , more distant target.
I would like to see the patient proof.

Boeing 777 - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Fly-by-wire

In designing the 777 as its first fly-by-wire commercial aircraft, Boeing decided to retain conventional control yokes rather than change to sidestick controllers as used in many fly-by-wire fighter aircraft and in many Airbus airliners. Along with traditional yoke and rudder controls, the cockpit features a simplified layout that retains similarities to previous Boeing models. The fly-by-wire system also incorporates flight envelope protection, a system that guides pilot inputs within a computer-calculated framework of operating parameters, acting to prevent stalls and overly stressful maneuvers. This system can be overridden by the pilot in command if deemed necessary. The fly-by-wire system is supplemented by mechanical backup.

You need to google Hunt the Boeing..

A Startlingly Simple Theory About the Missing Malaysia Airlines Jet | Autopia | Wired.com

Hypothesis by a pilot that there was a possible electrical fire, the crew set up for the nearest suitable runway, but were deceased long prior to arrival due to smoke, and plane then flew on the same heading until it ran out of fuel. Electrical system failure (including shutting off circuits to try to isolate the source) could explain loss of communication, transponder etc.

Just an FYI, one is typically not permitted to fly into "controlled airspace" without a transponder, particularly class B (your typical hub type airport with "heavies" coming and going). The area covered by such airspace is quite large and "VFR" type aircraft have to weave their way around or between such airspace. Violations of class B airspace (or heaven forbid the DC ADIZ) generally have immediate consequences. In the latter case a fighter popping up next to you and FBI meeting you when you land.... Then there are temporary "no fly zones" that follow the president around when he travels as well as other "important" politicians. These are particularly awkward as they can change in real time depending on the individuals schedule. Nowadays, most active pilots will subscribe to a service that updates such "TFR's " in real time on your GPS system and overlays them on the map.

Flying has certainly changed since 911, especially for recreational pilots. Commercial flights are little affected by the ADIZ or TFR since they enjoy high priority in the "system". But recreational pilots not.

With all the dithering on the night of the disappearance . There was enough time to land in some out of the way place and refuel. Then carry on sneaking to some hiding place.

Refueling a 777 is more than lifting jerrycans up on the wings. The fueling is done from the bottom. With a truck. A developed landing strip at least 6000'.

:
If there truly is no way for a pilot to control the aircraft with an electrical failure, I won't be wanting to fly it. Why have a pilot then? Just throw some monkeys in the cockpit.....

Just exactly what is that supposed to mean?
:smiley_aafz:
Got something against primates?

Fascinating thread!!

To believe or disbelieve...that is the question.

TBN members respond from all directions...aircraft designers, pilots, mechanics, scientists, those with common sense and with uncommon sense, with certainty and uncertainty, weaving a fabric of realism and fantasy worthy of Robert Heinlein.

Me, I'm just, with apologies to Tolkien, looking for...

One Conspiracy Theory to rule them all, One Theory to find them,
One Theory to bring them all and in the darkness bind them
