Breaking in the new tractor today we got 4 hours on it.

My first thought was that I was not impressed. As the speed was nothing like a PTO 3pt unit. I could not get a clean hole.
So after the first hole I tried to do it different.
I would run the hole a little bit deeper, turn off the auger, pull it out, back up and clean off by reversing.

It just took a little change in my methods and the holes came out clean in the end.

More speed would be nice but the ability to have down pressure makes up for it.

Do your EP6 PHD hydraulic lines have in line restrictors in them? I have them in line for my front mount hydraulic thumb so it doesn't open or close too fast. If so, you could change the orifice size or remove them to get a faster speed on the auger.

There are down pressure kits for 3pt PHD, PTO and hydraulic driven. I hope that was not the only reason that you went with what you have.

I feel as if I have more control with this vs the 3pt, I have sank a few that way and like the bucket mount now that I'm using it.
Plus its a lot easier to hook up.

I have a Danuser 1025 and while not fast, it is plenty enough to dig a hole. You don't need speed other than you need some to clear the auger after pulling it out of the hole. There is no way I would go back to a 3point, for safety and control reasons.

OK, thanks for the response. ;)

Nobody mentioned the reversing function of the hydraulic auger, yet. I think that and the down force were the major selling points for me when I bought my Belltec.

I have a 3 pt auger with the down force cylinder but I dont' really see how it can do any good since the 3 point is floating and can't apply down force in the first place. What am I missing?

Not to mention how much easier it is to hook up.

The down force is coming from the fixed point of the top link on the tractor.

One thing to watch with the Danuser, be very careful to not accidentally curl your FEL when raising the auger out of the hole. It will put force on the cradle and potentially bend the bottom rail. Don't ask me how I know. The hydraulic head needs to dangle in both directions all the time while in the hole. It is obvious but it is easy to accidentally curl while raising.

Hello all,

I am looking at getting an auger like this, I can't find much differences in the different brands. are there any a guy should stay away from?
The brands that have peaked my interest is the Danuser, McMillen, and Lowe. my my GPM of 11 it seems I will be in the entry level of the auger size which should be fine I only have 100 or so 12" holes to punch 48" deep.

I looked at the Danuser and McMillen, selected the Danuser and am happy. I did not look at Lowe. What size posts are you going to be putting in? The hole needs to be a fair amount larger for simple backfilling and due to the fact that the auger does not always go straight down. So if it is at an angle you can still get the post straight. I use a 15" auger for 8"x8" posts.

What ever one you look at make sure they offer an offset mount vs the centered as most bobcat style are..... being able to see is critical.

Agree 100% for use on a tractor. Danuser has one, not sure on the others.

One of the units I looked at before I bought my Belltec had other optional attachments, including a cement mixer. Unfortunately, I hadn't bookmarked that one and when I finally got around to ordering, I couldn't find it again! It seems a shame to have that nice hydraulic motor with the nifty hex shaft dedicated to just a single use.

^^^ now that is a great idea!!
Today I contacted the folks at everything attachments and got a McMillen X975 and 12" bit ordered, they even shipped it today!!! :) I will mostly be sinking 2 7/8 oilfield pipe and maybe some 4 1/2 oilfield pipe for a barn project. I have been acquiring tools left and right, and now I am getting much closer to getting started on some projects!
I did get the center mount on the quick attach, I should have a helper with for punching holes ( My Wife). if I feel that this setup doesn't work out I will then weld up some new mounts.
next thing on the gotta track down parts is a jumper hose to run down the FEL from the rear remote to power the auger. suggestions there?

I did the same. Bought the 1/2" 2 wire 3000PSI ready made hoses, swivels, and quick connects at local TSC store. Ran underneath tractor, up thru loader hoses and zip tied every couple feet. 14' (168") was the magic number length I used.

I did the same. Used 2ea 8' and 2ea 5' hoses. used the 8 footers from the rear going forward and the 5 footers up the loader arm, that gave me a place for some disconnects right around the loader mount.

now that I have completely hijacked the thread..... are all quick disconnects on the hoses created equally in a certain size range? if I just buy hoses can I assume they they will attach to my remote, or will they have to be spec'd to my machine?

thanks in advance ya'll :)
