Snow Attachments Snowblowers vs PTO HP

Most drives are 12', so with a 6' blower, you just have to go up and back and you're done. With a 5' blower, you have to make 3 passes, then drive all the way back, so it takes TWICE as long.

I won't argue on the widths of drives as I have no reference but my own that I clear 16-18' wide.

I will disagree on the time though. When you have to drive considerably slower because you are underpowered it offsets things. You need 20% more power to run a 6' over a 5'

I run a 73" Allied Farm King TPH blower on my tractor, with 4" wings on each side. It works very well on my geared 55hp Jinma - but I do have creeper gears too. My drive has some curves and some slope that gets to be hard with ice around. Don't have any tire chains but could use them sometimes. Ideally I would like a 7ft (84") blower but make do with the old blower as the cost of a new one is out of my reach at this time.
Yes, I can bog down the blower if I go too fast and too deep.

I have a B2150 w/18HP at the PTO and use an Allied 60" Rear blower with no problems.

Sounds like I'll do fine having 19 PTO with the 60". I've been looking at every brand out there - its funny how much of a difference in required PTO the makers call for on a similar sized unit. I would assume that they all run a similar gear ratio. If so, I wonder how they come to the required PTO number.

Part of it is a weight issue...the reasoning being a higher PTO HP tractor is normally larger and heavier. Some is just the company being conservative in their ratings...they want to ensure the implement works as advertised for the user. Woods Equipment rates a 74" blower at 30-50 PTO HP. The Puma 72" blower is rated 20-50 PTO HP, as examples.

Good Point.

I always have my FEL mounted whenever I use the blower and it certainly helps as a counterweight for the blower.

I am not sure if this is sized right as I just got it new this summer. The tractor is a Kubota B2920 HST (21 PTO HP) with a FEL and the blower is a Pronovost Puma 72.
The dealer sized it as said that the 2920 will handle it and told me to try it for the first couple storms. If I am not happy I can have the next size down (Puma-64) no questions asked.

I thought it was large for the tractor at the time and just put it on the other day and still think it is large but I have been surprised at how much heart this little unit has.

Your Thoughts

Al

I have a 7 ft. on a 50 + pto hp. tractor and that works hard in 12 or more inches of snow . I have creeper gears and use them when ever I use that blower .
I have a 63inch on the 19 pto hp. 2650 and that should work good with hst .

That's more my style if I had a need for that big of a tractor for anything else..more than one HP per inch of width rather than pushing limits with 4 inch per HP like some
