Mounting a PTO hydraulic pump

Yes, I need more flow, I am going to turn a couple of motors for extended period of time at 12GPM. Also the tractor only has < 4 gallons of fluid.

What are you using as a tank?

A 15 gallon tank which is sitting on a 3 point carrier/implement. The two motors are going to turn two cultivating blades for in-row cultivation

I would recommend a temperature gauge in the suction line.

With a good cooler an external tank would not be required.

What are the tell tail signs when running the tractor that your hydraulic fluid is getting warm, warmer than it should but before any damage can occur? I know having a gauge is ideal but if for some reason that is not possible is there a flow rate or PSI change that will occur? Any change in how it sounds? Anything else?

Those infrared laser thermometers that you point at an object to check it's temperature will do what you need. Just point it at the side of the tank. I have one that I've checked hyd oil temp with several times. Very handy to have for many things.

I always notice a smell of the warmer fluid from all the leakage around fittings, etc. Mine have never warmed too much but I can tell when I have been working the tractors.

I wouldn't hang a pump off of the PTO on a small tractor like that, especially if you have to extend it a few inches. Look at the size difference in the support bearings on a B2320 vs say even a 40hp John Deere. 50lbs hanging 1inch from the PTO housing is only exerts a little over 50lbs of force on the bearings, every inch you add multiplies the force, 4 inches and you are looking at 200lbs equivalent (not exact math but gives you the idea).

Take the time and mount the pump on the tank carrier and use a driveshaft. Maybe a little more expense up front but cheaper than having to rebuild to PTO on you tractor.

I'm thinking about getting a PTO pump, Thought about making or modifying a pre-made tank and hang it off the 3pt hitch, anyone see a downside to this, also any links to an radiator (liquid to air) type hydraulic cooler, only found a few that use water to cool not air.
