Punks trespass, property damage, cops want help getting abandoned jeep, need advice

Maybe I missed it, but what charges were filed against the driver? Did he do enough damage to qualify for a felony? Damaged fence, ruts that might have to be smoothed out, leaky tranny fluid that needs to be cleaned up, and destroyed trees, sounds like enough for a felony charge.

Charges were filed...something like trespass and doing damage. My parents have not been able to get the report yet. We asked about drugs, drinking, but the cops just dismissed it. It is as if they know them and are friends and are helping them. My parents are 80 years old and this is quite the hassle for them. With knee and hip replacements....they shouldn't have to fix the fence, cut stumps, haul trees. I can do that....for a jeep. Ha!

I think that you'll want to hang onto the vehicle as it's a tangible asset, unlike an insurance claim or promise from the town to pay, which are really worth only the paper they're written on. The reason the rozzers want the Jeep is to sell it at auction, so-called "asset forfeiture" has become such a lucrative cash cow that even the most corrupt AG in history is considering revoking their license to steal.
Do everything that you can to keep them from getting their filthy mitts on quite possibly the only recompense that you'll see from this unfortunate incident.

I called the wrecker service and asked if they would be able to retrieve the jeep where it is. They said no way.

Sounds like you've got a new Jeep coming this summer. Be sure to change the fluids. Make sure you have a clear title in hand before taking it on the road. :laughing:

you could always get a few people with strong backs together and just flip it end over end until you get it where it needs to be.
