Xfaxman;

What brand and width is your grapple?

Thanks!

Sent from my iPad using TractorByNet
Loflin Monster Grapple, 6' wide. It weighs almost 1200 pounds.

Last April I pulled a bunch of cedars with the tree puller and left them in piles of 3 or 4 trees.

I put the grapple on and made one trip, "smooching" and picking up piles until I had all 10 piles in the grapple.

This is about 35 trees.

You can't do this with a 30" opening grapple!

Over two years of Wicked Grapples with an average of over 2 sold per day(I just checked) and only a couple of guys that think their grapple needs to open wider.

This tells me that, overall, the Wicked Grapples for compact tractors are Golden!!

People love them. A negative comment is extremely rare, almost unheard of.

People love them because it is their first grapple and you don't make one with a wider opening.

Make one and it will outsell the 30" grapple.

Brush is light, so small tractors could handle it.

No need to be defensive. Any grapple is a good grapple. Nobody complains about their grapple because the alternative is to use your own back. It would be like complaining about how cold beer is when you're thirsty. We are just pointing out a simple design change that would enhance an already good grapple. Put another way, why wouldn't EA want to increase the jaw opening if it was a simple change in design geometry and enhanced the brush capacity per load?

Something is already in the works. :) After some talking and thinking with Ted this morning, he is now at the drawing board.

It will not be a redesign of our current models, but a new model that is a cross between our 50" single lid and our larger dual lid wicked grapples.

This reply took me about 15 minutes to type because I sold a 60" Wicked Grapple right in the middle of it!

Yes, the new one will have a larger opening!

I'm quoting you on that and will hold you to it!!

Ted couldn't believe the # of Wicked Grapples that we've sold since the introduction.

Thumbs up to EA for being open minded.

A couple of thoughts:

1) make sure the new model is rated for current 50hp CUTs with less than 3000lb lift capacity.

2) high strength steel was necessary to keep weight down on the 50 inch grapple because you wanted to sell it for <30hp tractors. Weight is less of an issue for 35-50 Hp tractors so save the money and just use 3/8 mild steel. Use more steel to make it as strong as you think necessary but IMO you shouldn't need to bulk it up. My DK40 with 2700lb loader has not broken my light duty Millonzi grapple in eight years of land clearing.

3) keep the single wide lid upper jaw.

Good luck!

Thanks for the advice. I think we're on the same page.

1. Yes, it will be rated the same as our current dual lid models.

2. We will use the same body(I think, still early) as the dual lid wicked grapple and add the single lid mounts. Two models using a common body just makes sense considering they're intended for the same size tractors.

3. Estimated lid width is 36" for the new one, which is 6" wider than the one on our 50" grapple.....I think it'd be less efficient and just look funny if it were any narrower than that.

All of the models that we currently offer are staying the same as far as i know. We love them, they've been great and they're just awesome!

This will add more variety to the line up and hopefully be appreciated by you guys!

Travis, I've been shopping for a grapple for about a year now. I don't have an EA because:
1) I'm 3,000 miles away, not in your shipping zone
2) the opening is too small

Why didn't I tell you that? Because you are not a custom manufacturer. You build what you build. So I looked elsewhere.

Just because potential customers don't ask for something you don't offer is no reason to think you aren't losing sales due to what you do offer not being what your potential customers want.

Not being critical, just letting you know why, in my opinion, you aren't hearing more about why your grapple doesn't please everyone.
