I lost the source of data for the energy required to manufacture a giant, commercial wind turbine, but it was a huge number and in context, the wind turbine needed to run without fault well past its own manufactures expected life without fault to break even. So the now hearsay (since I lost my original source) is that wind costs more than it produces as a pure energy question and is funded because it feels good and people have been conditioned by education to be willing to pay more for green energy than from traditional, efficient sources.

I really find it hard to believe that it would take more than 2million kwh X 20 years to produce one wind turbine Eric. You need some documentation. I'd enjoy seeing it, because I find commercial wind turbines repulsive given the tax incentives required.

You are not comparing the energy payback period in that article. It references pollutant reduction. Most articles I have read that discuss the life cycle analysis for wind power put the energy payback at less than one year.

Keep living in that vacuum. Know anybody who has one? They will tell you. I am not exactly sure of the numbers but this company has a list of $14M per unit plus installation costs. I do not know of any turbine that can produce $14M worth of electricity in a year.

The actual footprint of the reactor and zone 3 will be about one acre. Everything is radioactive, it's a matter of how radioactive. Do we post a radiation sign over your septic tank after you eat bananas which are loaded with radioactive potassium 40. Even the used fuel after 250 years is down to only 4-5 rem per hour. If you are waiting for radioactive materials to fission down to zero. You had better remove and bury the granite counter tops in your kitchen for hundreds of thousands of years.

With dry cask storage proposed to replace the pools, the entire present campus is proposed to be a "security area.

Your views are myopic. 250 years is OK with you? Who's kids get to deal with the responsibility all those generations. They will curse us all for being so stupid as to create such a waste and then run off and die before we take care of our own foolish mess. Greed and ego. they will say. Stealing from the unborn.
Low level exposure? I can add, and it all adds up. Skin cancer runs deep in my family. All ionizing radiation has the ability to alter any cell during it's division. Please take this "extra burden" to your place. It doesn't seem to bother you. I have to ask why I should accept it.

Oh Well, some people just have to have their electricity. 24/7/365. Me? Not so much. (as long as I get a hot shower before things start getting raunchy! ;-)

Bentek energy?

(We are a recognized leader in natural gas, oil and NGL market fundamental analysis.)

No possible bias against alternatives- versus oil and gas??

Oh NO!! we may have to actually employ some American workers for maintenance of these turbines - That would be terrible.

I googled "how much energy is required to manufacture a wind turbine?" and I can only find articles that contradict that thought, similar to these....

Does building turbines use more energy than they produce? | Environment | The Guardian

How long does it take a typical wind turbine to generate more power than what was used to create it? - Quora

Pushback on the second link. The author makes the assertion that a wind turbine pays for itself in 146 day. Huh?

"Modern wind turbines of typical industrial wind farm scale -- 3 MW and up -- pay back energy used in their full-lifecycle -- materials, manufacturing, construction, use and decommissioning -- in less than 146 days."

According to this link ( How much do wind turbines cost? - Windustry )

A wind turbine costs "$1.3 million to $2.2 million per MW of nameplate capacity installed. Most of the commercial-scale turbines installed today are 2 MW in size and cost roughly $3-$4 million installed." So in a year, we can double our investments? Sign me up!

In a country that thinks high schoolers should get paid $8+ per hour to flip burgers of an evening at McDs, it's no wonder they wouldn't want to.

City of Seattle has mandated $15 minimum wage. Implemented in a series of steps over 3 years IANM. First step increase was 1 April.

Well, if you take .11 cents per KWh times 2000 (that's 2 Megawatts) = $220 per hour times 24 hours = $5280 per day times 365 days per year = $1,927,200 per year divided by 4 (we'll give it a generous 25% of time that it actually generates at rated power; we suspect much less) = $481,800 dollars per year in electricity. So, 6-8 years it pays for itself and the next 12-15 years is free money - minus maintenance/repairs, of course. Now tack on the generous tax incentives and you've got a real money-maker there.
