Trust me i know that. But i didn't know the price to bullet proof

The main problem is that you have to know where the truck stands and that is a crap shoot unless you can take an extended hot use ride and that's not always possible.

Are the 07 reliable from factory or after getting bullet proof

They 07 is just the most refined. My 06 has 120,000 hard miles and has been totally reliable. It's not been bulletproofed but I'm sure the next owner will.

Best thing to do with a 6.0 is take a expert with you on a test drive. My buddies both used the same guy. He took a sophisticated scanner made for diesel Fords and told them yes or no. My one buddy got a good one first time out with his Dually. The other guy walked on about 5 trucks as advised by the mechanic before he found a good one. Big thing to watch is the oil temp vs coolant temp. Only possible with the scanner. This is a tell tell sign of the health under the hood.

True I'm sure...The one guy I camp with bought his dually used and had it done before anything happened. The other bought his new, followed Ford's direction and it's been a nightmare..He can't sell it now as he's so buried in it...We jag him saying he liked the truck so much, he bought it twice.

I own a 2008 6.4L with 60k miles on it. I love the truck other than the regens and the fuel economy. The only engine related issue I have had is the radiator leaked and was replaced at 27k.

If you can swing a 2011 truck with the 6.7L, I would do that in a heartbeat over the 6.4L. Expect 20% better fuel economy (maybe enough to make up the difference in payment if you drive a lot) and much more reliable than the 6.0 or 6.4.

Another option is to buy a Dodge with a Cummins and it comes from the factory bullet-proofed. There are also some good years for the D-Maxs. I find it ironic people are recommending a Ford truck and then passing on info on several thousand dollars in upgrades that are needed. I guess if the truck can be bought at the right price it might work out.

I heard the first years of the DPF-equipped Cummins weren't good years either. Certainly not the problems of the 6.0, but definitely more than the 6.4L.

And plus, the Cummins comes wrapped in a Dodge! :) (I'm just razzing you...not intending to start a brand bashing)

I agree, anything with DPF can be a problem. I know Dodge also has a interval for cleaning the EGR system. If I were shopping for a Dodge with a Cummins, I would stick with pre 6.7 engines or get the newer ones when they started with the DEF(2013?).

I have looked into a few dodges but they were 1Ton dully. The problem is my dad can't get good financing except through one dealer that does allot of ford

My '08 seems to regen about once every tank. It normally doesn't bother me, and I don't notice any power loss, but it always seems to happen at the most inopportune time. You know, like the last mile of a 200 mile trip when my next 20 trips are going to be short 3-milers. I'm sure that regen isn't good for the engine though.

DEF started with the '11 model year (at least for Ford it did, I'm pretty sure the same for GM and Ram). Trucks with DEF seem to be much more reliable than pre-DEF trucks with DPF. Also, WNAFMA (we need a few more acronyms)
