Trailer Sizes/Style recomnedations for 40hp tractor

I've had all types of trailers and for me it's a low boy, flat deck, and slide in ramps. Stand up ramps always seemed to be in the way and a Beaver Tail is wasted space.

you dont list what tractor.

but a 40hp Kubota (perhaps the lightest weight by size/hp) can be as little as 4000lb. on the other hand a 90's AG tractor (say a new holland TN55) in the 50hp range can be 6300lbs

then again a modern class three CUT could be as little as 3500lbs.

any way you slice it on the low end i would opt for nothing short of a 20' flat deck 10K (dual 5K axles) but if your at the upper end of the weights due to larger/AG size i would step up to the 14K trailers (dual 7K axles)

20' min 22' would be nice 24' and Im sure you wouldn't hate the extra 2'

for the record i have a 20' flat 10K equipment trailer for my TC33DA. and many times Ive been glad ive had all 20'

Here is a picture of my old 40HP New Holland TC40D with a backhoe and loader. A good 6ft rotary cutter will stick around 8 ft behind the tractor. Add a loader and you are probable close to the length of mine with the backhoe. The trailer is a 22ft tilt deck and rated for 14K.

Here is the same setup on a 20ft 10K trailer. I traded up to the larger trailer because I could not balance the tractor properly on the trailer to maintain the right tongue weight. Before the safety police chime in. No it is not chained down. I pulled on the trailer to see if it would fit which it did not. Never moved the truck, just took the picture to show the wife why I needed the new trailer.

I would recommend that you look at a minimum 20ft preferably 22+ and 12K or heavier. To be sure you will need to do some research on the exact model of tractor you are looking at and determine how much capacity you need. The weights can add up quickly. As for the style, you will get hundreds of opinions, but only you know how you will use it. Each style has their advantages and disadvantages. The other thing you need to verify is how much you truck can pull. That will open a whole new debate. :D

I have a trailer that is identical to your 20 ft 10K trailer, but mine has tip up ramps instead of the slide-in style. Never hauled anything more than building materials on it before I used it as a base to start building my tiny house on.

Learn from my mistake of getting a 20' trailer that is too short. Get a 24' long 83" wide dual 7000 pound dexter axle Load n Trail with tip up ramps. Life is too short for slide in ramps.

I would agree, but can his F 150 handle that???

I have a 20 foot trailer that is actually 16 foot deck plus four feet for the dovetail. It is too short. There is not room to load the tractor with the backhoe, loader and third implement. Since the grapple is usually on the tractor the bucket is usually the third implement. My loaded trailer weights about 11,000 pounds. It is a pretty good load for my gas F 350. My Grandpas diesel dully pulls 15K better and gets drastically better mileage doing it. I hate slide in ramps. The fold up ramps with the the stand to avoid lifting up your tow vehicle are much better. I know the tow ratings on a new F-150 are way up there, but I think you are pushing your luck.

An F150 with a 3.5L EB? It'll do just fine towing. Have you seen my F150 YouTube towing my tractor at 75mph?

Hills it downshifts to fifth and fourth gear.

How much does your tractor weigh? I would have to see it towing 12000 pounds up a mountain to believe it. I have to go down a mountain with about 1,000 feet elevation change to go very far in any direction. That is the easy part. Coming back up it works my gas F 350 hard pulling 11000 pounds.
