Greetings Gladehound,

I also know if someone offered me a 45 hp used tractor for 1,000 dollars I'd buy it ONLY to sell it because I'd not be able to use it at all on my 2.75 acres due to slopes and purposes. Maybe your land accomodates a big tractor . . but the OP's land description doesn't appear to. And certainly his level of experience doesn't support the risks of buying used.

I'm not trying to talk the OP into a larger tractor. I am encouraging him to think about if he should get a large tractor or not. Smaller tractors are often the wiser choice. I am also encouraging the OP to make better financial choices with his potential tractor purchase and perhaps look at risk a little differently. When you buy used there is the risk that something could go wrong. When you buy new there is the guarantee that something already did (depreciation the day you sign the papers). The exception is machines for businesses where downtime = lost income.

I have to get insurance for what? Do i have to register it also? I would assume the machine are coverd under my home owmers insurance if a tree feel on it or it was stolen.

Gonna call my home owners insurance on that. As far as the guy that said these machine costs this much because people are willing to pay this much. That is a totally incorrect way of pricing something. Maybe thats how people who are very rich talk, maybe they think they dont need to negotiate on something because they can buy it ten times over. Between me and my wife we do pretty well for our selves, but that doesnt mean i go buy a 80 inch 4k tv from best buy for 8,000 dollars when i can get it from amazon for 2,500 dollars.

As for cash prices. Last time I looked every single car i have purchased, which all of them where financed i did a pretty good job of negotiating at very cheap interest rates. Plus they gave cash rebates back.

So if i am paying cash on a 20,000 dollar machine then i better get it for 12,000 dollars. That how cash works. At least thats how i get things. I own 4 rental properties that all where bought with cash, i got a huge discount over financing etc.

So i am getting off topic sorry. Just keep venting lol..

Id like to find a 24hp loader and mower for 15,000 grand. If that cant happen i walk away.

Generally insurance is required if you finance because the holder of the note demands it. In my case I went with the Zero down/Zero % and chose to go with the KTAC (Kubota provided insurance) as it was a much better deal/policy than my homeowners insurance.

When I financed my John Deere at 0% interest, no one every mentioned insurance. It's covered by homeowners when it's on the property and off the property... I guess it's my risk.

I would assume the machine would not be covered under your homeowners policy unless you specifically added a rider for it. As mentioned, if financing, insurance will be required by the lender. But in general, having it insured is a good idea in case it were stolen, or your garage burns down with the tractor inside, or whatever. If you want it on your homeowners policy, check to see if you need a rider, and check to see where/when its covered.

Regarding price, it seems you don't understand capitalism. Its all about selling for what people are willing to pay..for any variety of reasons. In general, you can get a better cash price than finance price. You example of paying 12K for a 20K tractor is outside of what I would expect in the tractor world.

Generally, I've seen 10-12% off MSRP for most folks, and maybe another few % for cash. Depends of the brand and dealer. That being said, $15K (give or take) is in the range for models like a Massey Ferguson GC1705 or Kubota BX2370, both with loader and MMM.

It really does boil down to what works best for your situation, my first tractor was a lawn tractor, I pulled a little John Deere tilt trailer behind it, later on I purchased a Iseke TX1300 2WD 2 cylinder diesel with rice patty tires it didn't have a FEL but I had a box blade and then picked up a 48" mower and a auger and 6ft rake. The little tractor did everything I needed, but I wanted a FEL and didn't want to have it on a 2WD tractor with a manual transmission so I did a lot of soul searching and searching in general for the right tractor for me. I thought it was a NH TC30 but the 4WD didn't work so I found a Kubota B7800 with a loader and a ganon with less than 200 hours, what a joy to not have to shift anymore and it fits my needs. For me I would rather have a 3 point tiller than a 3 point splitter but that's me, one thing I would get is the quick attachment for your 3 point hitch so you can save time attaching your implements.

Here are three new 2015 Kioti 24hp to 25hp SCUTs/CUTs with loaders and one with mower in NY (see link). All under $15K. lowest priced one is $13.5K and that one has the loader and mower.

Machinery pete and tractor house are my new best friends lol. I think all this uncertainty I have will be cleared when i get to get on one and see what they can do.

As far as the kioti i have seen that but not sure for the single hydaulic arm for the loader. I gotta see what these things can do in real life cause when i put pictures to prices i see no value. If that make sense.

I apprecite the link and help.

For example i am looking at some 2025r Jd slighlty used nut still under warranty for some good prices.

I just showed those because that's the size you were asking about. I like the way you are thinking now.

Honestly, I think you'll be disappointed with a sub-CUT. Acreage has nothing to do with tractor size. The types of jobs and your expectations about how your tractor does those jobs determines appropriate size. For example, I only have 2 acres but I have the fortunate situation of having near unlimited access to large logs that are too big to chip and too big for my friends wood processor. I can go to his house, load my trailer with his skid steer and unload with my tractor at home. the picture shows the typical size of the logs.

Picking up sticks.jpg

With this arrangement I can get a huge amount of wood in little time and almost no physical effort but a SCUT would never unload these logs. I also don't think I would enjoy moving snow with a 1500 pound SCUT and certainly could never clear all the driveways I clear in the time I have. If I only was doing one small driveway the SCUT would be fine. But I do many large driveways.

I also give hay rides at a large orchard. Trailer weighs 7000 pounds loaded with people an the orchard is hilly. The funny thing is, I never planned to do any of these things. I just started doing them after I had the first (smaller) tractor. But even that tractor was much heavier and more capable than a SCUT. The hayride is one of the big reasons I went to the larger tractor.

My point is, really think about what you expect a tractor to do. And if you expect a tractor to do big tasks, you need a big tractor and something lighter to mow with. If you expect it to do smaller tasks, maybe one machine can do both.
