Questions on 2016 F250

I'm sure it will work, but I still wouldn't want to tow 5-6 tons with the 6.2L gasser setup on a regular basis.

The fuel economy stinks towing with a gasser but our 15 F-250 with the 6.2 towed a 12k gooseneck from Texas to Kansas and back at least eight times. We never had a complaint about lack of power. Our main reason in trading was fuel economy and driving range. We travel in a convoy with an 18 wheeler and on a 500 mile trip with the 6.2 we would leave with a full tank and have to stop twice for fuel on the way there. The diesel will make it with only one refuel which makes it a lot easier with the big truck in the convoy as we make trips this distance often.

I think this point is very important. Were I a buyer, I'd think about how much towing I was going to do. If I found myself in your position it would be diesel hands down. I value the fact that my diesel will move 24K handily while staying under 2500rpms. Most times under 2000rpms. I value that it will do it and still be in the low to mid teens on mileage.

So, in regards to the OP, I think he already has thought thru all of that. I think he's also weighed the initial purchase cost of the diesel versus gasser. I think he's come to a rational decision about which powertrain he needs. Our personal results may vary. I'm excited for him and am anxious to hear his results.

How may miles did a tank last you?

It had 32 gallon tank because it was a shortbed. I could get close to 500 miles empty but with the 12k GN maybe 225-250 miles. The diesel I got is a long bed and not only gets better mileage towing but it has a 36 gallon tank.

Skip the F250 and get a SRW F350. You gain 1500# of payload increase for around $600

With a gas Superduty absolutely get either 4.10 or 4.30 gears. Anything less will have you wishing for more. Another must is the Ford a Trailer Brake Controller.

Trust me on thus subject. I have owned over 25 vehicles of which better than a dozen of them were Ford Trucks.

I will continue to share here! I really appreciate your imput.

Anyone have anything to say about Zeibart rust protection? I have one within driving distance.

Luke I found one (a Krown dealer) in White River VT. I put a link in your other "rust" thread.

I own a 2014 crew cab F250, gas, 4:30 gears and avg 13.8 for the 28,000 miles so far, and I love it. I also have an unlimited availability of any truck for my profession, brand and size, of the big 3, from 3/4 tons to 5500/550's, so I have an extensive knowledge of just about all of the brands and sizes. I also own a 24 foot PJ gooseneck equipment trailer that I pull my tractors, 279 Cat skid steer, and mini ex on. I can tell you that my 250 is perfect for my needs, I've pulled my trailer about 5000 miles with my truck, 28 foot bp camper about 1500 miles a year. The diesels are good, if you pull everyday. But the added cost upfront, plus fuel and maintaince for them will never pay for themselves to the average person, which is what I catorgize myself. Also, I love to hear about the "great fuel mileage" new diesels get these days, but it's not possible. I'm currently driving a 2016 Ram 3500 crew cab 4wd dieselwith 4:10 gears, unloaded getting 14.2 mpg, almost all highway. Last weekend I hooked my trailer/tractor to it and went to my farm, 86 miles round trip on 2 lane roads doing 55 mph, got 10.9 mpg. My personal rig on the same trip gets 9.7. Do the math over a 100,000 miles and it'll never pay for itself. Plus the added liability of diesel motors make me sick to think about. 250/350 gas with 4:30 gears and don't look back.

I've heard that insurance can vary significantly from F250 to 350. I plan on confirming this.

Surprisingly, 4.30 gears might be a little hard to find arround here. :confused3: I don't have time to order one. Going to dealers tomorrow but everyone Ive looked at online has 3.73 on the online PDF window sticker.

Yeah they aren't common, but your local dealer can do a locate for 1 and find 1. Trust me, it's worth it to get it with them. The dealer will want to sell you what's on the lot, but if he wants the sell than he needs to be willing to work a lil for it. Believe me, I deal with car dealers everyday.
