I own a 2014 crew cab F250, gas, 4:30 gears and avg 13.8 for the 28,000 miles so far, and I love it. I also have an unlimited availability of any truck for my profession, brand and size, of the big 3, from 3/4 tons to 5500/550's, so I have an extensive knowledge of just about all of the brands and sizes. I also own a 24 foot PJ gooseneck equipment trailer that I pull my tractors, 279 Cat skid steer, and mini ex on. I can tell you that my 250 is perfect for my needs, I've pulled my trailer about 5000 miles with my truck, 28 foot bp camper about 1500 miles a year. The diesels are good, if you pull everyday. But the added cost upfront, plus fuel and maintaince for them will never pay for themselves to the average person, which is what I catorgize myself. Also, I love to hear about the "great fuel mileage" new diesels get these days, but it's not possible. I'm currently driving a 2016 Ram 3500 crew cab 4wd dieselwith 4:10 gears, unloaded getting 14.2 mpg, almost all highway. Last weekend I hooked my trailer/tractor to it and went to my farm, 86 miles round trip on 2 lane roads doing 55 mph, got 10.9 mpg. My personal rig on the same trip gets 9.7. Do the math over a 100,000 miles and it'll never pay for itself. Plus the added liability of diesel motors make me sick to think about. 250/350 gas with 4:30 gears and don't look back.
