Is it too early to switch to full synthetic motor oil at the 50 hr oil change?

A lot of engines come from the factory with synthetic, so I don't see any problem.

I've heard this question asked before. Maybe older engines had issues with ring seating, etc??

I guess you could but break-in may take forever.
Are they telling to do the first oil change at 50 hours? That is very early. Maybe don't use synthetic yet. It would not hurt you to go 500hr or to a year on conventional oil if you don't put on that many hours. That is what I did with my tractor and have had no issues. Best to ask your dealer their thoughts on it.

At the 200 hour change I went to full synthetic and so far so good. I'm gonna change the filter at 300 hours and top off then at 400 hours I will change the oil and filter.

Not to early IMO.
I went to synthetic at the first 50 hour change on my tractor. (its has 2000 hours now)
My zero turn called for the first oil change at 8 hours and I went to synthetic.

not too early. Put it in at 50 if you want. I did. New cars and trucks all come with it right out of the factory.

Just about everything I have gets either a full synthetic or synthetic blend at first oil change. I have never had any issues. Gassers, Diesels, lawn mowers, portable generators, gator, ... all of them.

Unless your owners manual calls for a specific breaking oil, and specifies a breaking period, (which is rare today), you can switch anytime you like.

Check the spec's for your motor oil. Lubricity is basically the same now for both, mineral oil, and synthetic oil. That means the engine won't break any different, with either one. This is why engines now often come from the factory with synthetic oil in them.

If it was important for you to wait, you would not need to ask this question, your manual would specify that.

If you choose to believe incorrect, outdated thinking, which tells you otherwise, you can wait, and switch later. That won't matter either.

It's 2016, it's all just oil now. The only difference is, synthetic works better in extreme temperatures, and allows for longer drain intervals.

True. For the GM crowd, dexos1 and dexos2 GM oil specs virtually demand a synthetic blend at a minimum. And they are factory filled with it.

My 2014 e350 came syn...

The day I brought my new mtd home from tsc, I swapped it to syn.. That's been 3ys now?

X2, no worries at all.

It's already been said, above, that you can use it immediately. But I want to add another thought. A lot of these "rules" we hear repeated are old and way out of date. No longer valid, if they ever were. Most manufacturers list synthetic, or recommend it.
Some of the last holdouts on this were small engine manufacturers. I think Kubota took a long time to update their manuals too. Now, most have changed their stance and list synthetic oil as at least an option. I recently noticed Briggs and Stratton had an updated owners manual available online for one of my engines, and I compared it to my original. They went from recommending SAE 30 for warm temps and 10w30 for cold temps in the old manual, to now recommending synthetic for the full temperature range. They even added footnotes with warnings against using dino 10W30 in warm temps, and warning about engine damage if using sae30 in cold temps. Only synthetic (5w30 or 10w30) is shown for use in the full range of temperatures with no warnings.

Neither my current nor my past Kubota dealer stocks synthetic oil for Kubota oil changes. Only offer conventional. I just hit the 300 hour point on my L and I'm interested in the same thing, switching over. Though with my under 100 hour annual use, and annual oil changes, not sure it matters what I put in there, within reason.
I rarely have to start the engine when it's really cold out, not where I live. But I've been using Mobil 1, Pennzoil Platinum, variety of good synthetics on most of my equipment.

I too am a Mobil 1 fan been using it for years, Good stuff Maynard.

I've been putting Rotella T6 in EVERYTHING, tractor, splitter, generator, mower, etc. I'd put it in my Tundra too but it doesn't come in 0w, although my manual says I can, but I just might get a little less gas mileage.

I changed the oil and filter on my 4010 at 13 hours to full synthetic. Don't know why. Guess I had rocks in my head.

Do it at your 50 hour change. I've switched a very old 240D Benz and an equally old Gravely to synthetic with absolutely no problems. Only problem I ever had was on our 1996 Tacoma when I sucked out the old power steering fluid and put full synthetic in. The rubber line going onto a steel line blew off. Had to put a clamp on the rubber line.

The only thing I have seen, where they don't recommend a drop in switch to synthetic, is an air compressor.

You can switch a new compressor, right over. But, a flush is recommended, if the compressor has been used with regular low carbon, non detergent oil.

And, since the flush solvent only seems to come in 5 gallon pails, it's very uneconomical to do.

I am sure though, some people will say they switched theirs, without problems.
